    So I just pulled off a toe-nail

Bit by bit, with blood coming out around the sides.

Used those plier-looking things that are just for cutting/snipping.

So then commenced the 30-40 minute search for some neosporin (anti-biotic cream) to put on my fresh "wound". After said search I determined there wasn't any in the house. So I used an anti-septic swab I found in a first aid kit... this thing looks like it's been around since the late 70's or early 80's (mom's a pack-rat)

So yea... wiped with the questionable anti-septic swab, and then wrapped with gauze and tape. And now it's time for bed.

Boy squats and DL's are going to be fun tomorrow... >_>

    edit:
Big toe, left foot, for those that are wondering.

I'll see about taking a picture later today, both of the fragment and of the toe.

When I was in high school I had troubles with ingrown toe-nails for about 2 years.

Had a total of 10 or 12 of them, between my two big toes.

My left one never grew back quite "right" looking... but for a few years it also hasn't grown in.

Lately it's been pushing against the skin of my toe, causing mild pain and irritation, and also some days causing red inflamation and swelling.

So last night at about 2:30am I thought it'd be a good idea to "trim it", but couldn't find the toe-nail clippers...

So that's how I ended up using that tool... I had attempted it the night before, while at my fiance's house to no avail, the toenail wouldn't give in to the clippers, it was too thick/strong... but in trying I found that I had loosened the nail a bit from the foundation.

So last night (this morning?) I basically finished the job... which I found out was still about 90% from completion... It hurt a bit, but in the end I was pleased with the results. The only problem now is how badly it throbs, and the lack of ointment to put on it, and walking. But yea, other than that, it's all good.

See all of this is why I should be asleep at 2:30 in the morning.

And for the record... yes it was a PR. I'd pulled a nail off of the other foot before, but that one wasn't attached by much and didn't bleed all over.

Wrap your toe in duck tape.

Oh trust me, after a dozen or so ingrowns and at least as many trips to podiatrists, I've learned to cut straight across. The problem is that my toes are "fleshy" (Doctors use that term... wtf) and so they're more prone to it. Also the fact that when the doctor "removed it" and was supposed to be permanent, I'm one of like 3% of people that the procedure didn't work on, so not only did they grow back, they grew back deformed. I'll take some pictures tomorrow morning and post them on here, it's pretty crazy.

    ^ Long time no see.

I wonder what's going to happen now. If the nail will grow back at all or not.

Oh man..I feel for you. I used to get some bad ingrown nails and I can remember sitting up one night doing the same as you...you start off trying to just get the irritating part off and you end up with a bloody stub with no shell...sad...but manly.

this is qualifies for one of the manliest threads on /WBB/ I think.
However, we need pics to confirm validity.

Here it is. The stupid site won't let me rotate it because it's "too tall", and I couldn't access my usual photo site (photobucket) from work.

I clip the arch, oh yea. Living on the edge. 1 ingrown in 27 years cuz some dude stepped on it in hs fb. Cotton up under the nail after it grows out a bit, helps it grow straight again. Gay but it works.

    I guess you've never lost a nail?

It grows back from near the base of where the nail used to be. At first it is kind of soft and really weird, and it hardens as it grows.

Hasn't grown back out from under the skin yet, I pulled it out pretty good, so it'll probably take a while before I see actual growth.

It's kind of exciting really, and the pain isn't that bad, just a constant reminder that something's "up" with my toe.

I suffered from the same problem, after 3 or 4 nail removals I opted to have the flesh around the nail removed [Big toe on both feet]. 1 inch pieces off each side, haven't had the problem since.

I should look into that. Was it expensive?

It was not, mine was actually covered by health insurance but I believe its something like 200 bucks (which obviously would vary depending on country and state).
The operation itself is not painful, the healing is a bit prolonged (about a month) but hell, I got 100 percocets..that was more than enough to ease the pain.
