The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Thanks!!! I do need to cut some stuff out since I'm getting closer to the meet. I was just feeling really good and didn't want to stop. I missed 606 at lockout at the Seniors so hopefully this time I will get it or more. I feel really comfortable in my shirt so that's always a good thing.

    240-1x3
    330-1x2
    Added my belt

Great work on the floor press PR, what kind of briefs did you get?

Gotta love bands with the mastodon...not! haha. That thing won't flex to save its life.

Thanks, I just bought a pair of single ply dual quad briefs from Titan to do my speed work.

The bands are fun for speed work, they're not fun on circa max though.

How much are you supposed to be able to add weight wise each month say on bench press?

Seems I read that you should be adding reps each time you work out or 2.5 pounds per week. Is that too high? I recently started lifting again and am benching 150 x 12 reps. I usually warm up with lower weight 2-3 sets than do 3 good ones at 150.

How long should it take me to get to 200? 300? if I'm benching every other day?

Dead lifts same thing how much weight should I add each week?

Everybody is different in this kind of situation. Adding 2.5lbs a week to whatever your lifting, IMO is not high at all. It's possible that you can probably bench 200 now if your doing 150x12. But why do you want to bench every other day? As far as the deadlift goes, you can probably try to add 5-10lbs a week. But, if your gonna pull heavy all the time and try to add weight every week, you might run into a wall. Are you deadlifting every week? What is your current deadlift max?

Is the Zydrunas press an OHP out of chains or a bench out of chains? Just curious, seen you mention them a couple times lately

It's an OH press, and we do them out of chains. But your not sitting on a bench, your sitting on the floor with your legs straight out. Its weird to get use to, but I like them alot. You should try them, they are bad ass!!!!

    Tuesday
    ME-Lower

    Wall squats
with a mini band around my knees to help me push out.
    Warm-up
    2x5 (wide stance)

    Zercher Squat
Out of chains, off a box and with a cambared bar.
    140-1x5
    230-1x5
    320-1x1
    410-1x1
    500-1x1
    550-1x1
    590-1x1
    620-1x1
500-1x3...I was going for 5 but I had to stop after 3 and take my elbow sleeves off, and I guess I broke my concentration because that was all she wrote. Next time, because I know I can do 500x5.

    Stiff-legged deadlift
    off a 4" platform
    155-1x8
    245-1x5
    335-1x5

Today was a pretty good day, except seeing John get hurt attempting a 500lb zercher squat. That kind of lowered our drive. But after relaxing for awhile he came back and repped out 410 and did 500. He is good for more then that. Also, His wife did 280lbs and Zack did 550lbs. I will post a video of the zerchers as soon as I can.

Tonight was a great night in my bench shirt. Even though I missed 625 for a full ROM. I think it was the first time I let out all my air half way up with the weight, and just couldn't push any further. So this weight will be my 3rd attempt.

We took some video so it should be posted soon.

    How many times a week

You had asked me why I bench every other day and I do that because at 51 if I let 2-4 days go my elbows & wrists don't seem to want to do their job.

Also when I was a teen back in the 1970's that how we did it in football and that's how my dad taught me probably several years before that. I had the old sears plastic weights at age 10 or 11.

What's the new conventional wisdom? Just twice a week on each body part? Also whats the best way to lose man boob fat? I had low testosterone for years and it took it's toll there when I stopped benching regularly.

We only bench twice a week, we do speed work on Monday and our max effort work on Thursday. Benching three days a week, IMO is to much. Our Monday workouts can also be considered a bench accessory day if we don't do speed work. There are ALOT of people that are only benching twice a week, with the same split having a DE and ME day.

We do this high so we can take the pressure off our hips, and from doing it with a close stance it really hits your quads, glutes and lower back.

Today was a pretty good day. It's been awhile since I have done speed work with bands. It was a little awkward at first but it got better. Those skull crushers are very hard when your lying on the floor. We are 5 weeks out from our meet.

    5 Weeks Out

    Reverse Band Deadlifts
With blue bands setup approximately 66" from the platform we pulled off of.

    445-1x1
    535-1x1
    625-1x1
    645-1x1
    665-1x1
    685-1x1...30lb PR!!!
705-1x1...I stood up with it and locked my knees, but I just couldn't get my shoulders back about an inch more. It was a very good gym lift but I'm not gonna say it was a PR.

    Shrugs
    200-1x10
    290-1x10
    380-2x12
    290-1x10
    200-1x10

We all had a really good day today. I wanted to do some grip work but my hands are screaming. So I will try tomorrow. I got this setup that we used today from Sgt. Rock and Louie Simmons. I think it's alot better then the other way we set our bands for this exercise. We took some video of our top lifts, so as soon as I get a chance I will post them up.
