    Alright, I'm rather confused about this. Basically I've cut out as much sodium from my diet as possible. My concern is that I tend to sweat quite abit during my workouts and especially now since I'm wrapping up and doing more cardio. I noticed this morning that (sorry this is kinda nasty ) as I licked my lips , the perspiration on my face had absolutely no saltiness to it. Now is this ok, or does it mean that something is lacking? I was always under the impression that sweat had salt in it????

    U bet sweat has a lot of salt in it normally. It tends to concentrate as it evaporates so the salty taste will get stronger and on a dry day will leave white salt deposits on your face. Nonetheless, it should always have at least some salty taste. . You should check your diet to make sure that the foods your eating contain enough sodium as your probably adding none. Heavy water consumption will further deplete salt levels.

    Salt, (potassium and sodium) are essential nutrients. THis is because the body is not just functioning in a pool of water, but a pool of buffered saline solution. Thus as you become "salt depleted" through sweat and unrination (i'm assuming you drink a lot of water=lots of salt going in the toilet) your bodys fluid pool is less salty. This lost electrolyte must constantly be replaced though diet.

    Electrolyte (salt) imbalance is a deadly condition -no joke here. All of the body functions require sodium and potassium ions to move nutrients and other compounds in and out of the cells. THe heart relies on proper electrolyte balence as it is an electrical machine and is sending electrical impulses around every time it beats. All of the nerve impulses in your body also rely on adequate levels of sodium and potassium.

    Look, i think i know why your taking this strategy-ie less water retention. My question is why? Just to lose an extra pound of water weight? Is that really worth the risk?
    Perhaps also you were not that depleted as well.

    Remeber Sav, you body is not stupid. If you cut your sodium down too much your body is going to react. It will start to hold onto more water. Many Bodybuilder cut sodium down too early in a comp and do not look as sharpe as they could on the day of the show. I remember reading that Dorian only cut back on sodium 24 hours before a show. He said people where amazed that he was still eating sauces in the last week of the Olympia.

    You need a good balance of both electrolyte - Potassium and Sodium.
