The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

I have a lot of work to do, that is for sure Coke.

    5/20

    Bench Press
    Bar x 10
    Bar x 5
    95 lbs x 5
    135 lbs x 5

    175 lbs x 5
    200 lbs x 5
230 lbs x 10. Pretty much all textbook. Struggling like hell to keep form. That is harder than the actual lifting. If I just would do what I used to do I would get more reps, but they wouldn't be quality. Just need time and practice. So---

    185 lbs x 10, 8
    155 lbs x 10 x 2
    135 lbs x 10 paused reps

Chins- 40 total reps. First 20 with the fat gripz. took a few sets

    15 minutes of stretching

Training is going to take one a bit of a different look with the Memorial Day Holiday week and all. I am going to be doing assistance work Saturday and Deadlift 3x5/Overhead Press 3x3 Tuesday. Thursday might be Squat/Bench or just squat. We need to decide yet. I am planning on Tuesday with just doubling the reps on the last sets and maybe the same with squats. Will need to see how I feel at that time and just play it by ear.

Rolled yesterday, going to roll again tomorrow. Got some lifting in today, but nothing remarkable.

    Oly Squats
    Bar x 10 x 2 sets
    135 lbs x 10 x 2 sets
225 lbs x 5- right hamstring is tender right now, so this was enough.

    Good Mornings
    Bar x 10 x 2 sets
    95 lbs x 10 x 2 sets
    135 lbs x 10

    DB Bench
    30 lb db's x 20 x 5 sets

    Lat Pulldown
    100 lb stack x 15 x 5 sets

    Hanging Knee Raises
    5 x 12

    15 minutes of stretching

Rolling didn't happen today. Buddy must have had too much to drink last night and wasn't feeling it. So, went for a morning stroll with my lady and stretched a good bit.

    5/25

Wound up with a regular deadlift workout tonight, which was fine by me.

    Deads
    135 lbs x 10
    135 lbs x 5
    235 lbs x 5
    285 lbs x 5
    325 lbs x 3

    350 lbs x 5
    405 lbs x 5
455 lbs x 9- Only set I used a belt and mixed grip for. Right ham still tender, but not like Saturday. Very humid int he gym. Trouble getting any air after about rep 6. Was hoping for 10, but this is a good start.

    Oly's
    135 lbs x 10
    225 lbs x 10 x 2 sets
    275 lbs x 10
    135 lbs x 10

    RC on the GHR
    5 sets of 12

    15 minutes of stretching.

My gym has been all too humid as well with this most recent heatwave...digging the heavy deads with reps.

Something to build on for sure coke. Weight last night was 222 lbs. To drop 25 + lbs in the past few months and actually gain a little bit of strength is encouraging.

    Overhead Press

    Bar x 10
    Bar x 5
    95 lbs x 3

    120 lbs x 3
    140 lbs x 3
    155 lbs x 10

    Floor Press-Pinky on Ring
    135 lbs x 10
    165 lbs x 10
    185 lbs x 10
225 lbs x 3. I could have got more reps, but the form just isn't there yet. My elbows still want to go out, and no point doing it wrong. Was going to do 2 sets of 5 with this. Went back to 185 lbs on the last set
    185 lbs x 8

    Neutral Grip Chins
46 total reps(12, 8, 5, 5, 5, 5, 6) For some reason 5 was a sticking point on a few sets. Just seemed to die on that rep. Back pretty sore from deadlifting too.

    15 minutes stretching.

Next full out workout will be squats next tuesday. I am going to hit a light de-load workout saturday on all 4 lifts. 3 x 5 at 30, 40, and 50% just to get some work in. This worked out much better than the original plan.

I just took an extended break over the holiday weekend. Back today with some squats. Had to walk them out because the monolift was being occupied with some heavy SSB's with a box. 55 lb squat bar

    Bar x 10
    Bar x 5
    145 lbs x 5
    195 lbs x 3
    235 lbs x 3
    285 lbs x 1

    325 lbs x 3
    370 lbs x 3
415 lbs x 8. Only belted set. I think I could have gutted out 2 more. And, I think the monolift gives you 1-2 extra reps too. Good set though.

    Good Mornings

    145 lbs x 10 x 2 sets
    165 lbs x 10

    Glute Hams

Just did 3 sets of 7. Hamstrings were screaming by this point.

    Sit Ups on GHR Bench

    15, 15, 12, 12, 12

    15 minutes of stretching.

At least you all have the monolift, lol - that would be sweet to get one of those...huge sets of squats.

It is quite the piece of equipment. Definitely allows you to use more weight and get more reps without having to walk it out. I feel pretty confident with both styles myself.

    Rolled tonight. Bench tomorrow night.

    6/3

    Bench

    Bar x 10
    Bar x 5
    135 lbs x 5
    135 lbs x 3
    165 lbs x 3

    190 lbs x 3
    215 lbs x 3
    240 lbs x 9

    190 lbs x 10 x 2 sets
    165 lbs x 10
    135 lbs x 10 x 2 sets

Lot of pain and soreness in my biceps today. Might have been from rolling don't know. Wasn't feeling chins when I tried them. 1 arm db rows didn't bother me.

    40 lb db x 10 x 4 sets

100 lb db x 16 right arm, 14 left arm

    15 minutes of stretching

Connor it works better with my frame.

    6/6

Not a stellar day today, but not bad either

Deads- tweaking around with my technique. Might have took away from my heavier sets

    135 lbs x 10, 5
    235 lbs x 5
    285 lbs x 3
    325 lbs x 3

    375 lbs x 3
    430 lbs x 3
485 lbs x 6 and just missed locking 7 out. I was stuck on getting 7 reps, but probably should have left well enought alone at 6. I mixed my grip for all the work sets just to be used to it. When I use it for reps and only go to it on the last set, it kind of messes me up.

    Oly Squats
    135 lbs x 10
    225 lbs x 10 x 2
    275 lbs x 5
    315 lbs x 5

Did sit ups on the GHR bench with medicine ball tosses. 10-12 reps of 5 sets. Think I did 10 on the 1st and last. 12 on the middle ones.

    15 minutes of stretching.

Lift offs for the guys benching. Extra deadlift work. One guy worked up to 650 lbs to a 3 brd.

Did a decent amount of walking. Went to Hershey Park for about 3 hours after work tonight. We got on every ride we wanted to with about an average 5 minute wait. We might have had to wait 10 minute for Farenheit. Fantastic.
