The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

It’s no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Just trying to get a little better each workout.

Girlfriend and I took a short stroll to get some dinner last evening. Lately my primary carb sources have been exclusively fruits and vegetables with opticen on lifting days, but I rationed that since we walked to dinner, I could cheat a bit. 16 hot wings, a chicken ceaser wrap with chips, 2 mini burgers, and a tea. That didn't even fill me up and I considered ordering more food, but that wouldn't really help things would it?

Rolled this morning. My buddy I roll with was dragging today. Still got some good work in, but he had to take a lot of breaks. Stretched afterwards. Got home and cleaned the house. Relaxing the rest of the day. Going to hit a Japanese steakhouse for dinner.

Sunday dinner was nice. 9 piece sushi and a roll with crab, avacado and sprouts, hibachi steak, hibachi rice, and a good portion of my girlfriends chicken and shrimp dinner.

    Deadlift 7/12
    135 lbs x 10, 5, 5
    215 lbs x 5
    265 lbs x 3
    335 lbs x 3

    385 lbs x 3
    440 lbs x 3
    495 lbs x 3
    540 lbs x 1
385 lbs x 9(double overhand grip), immediately switched to mixed grip for another 6. 15 total
Pretty happy with this. Able to keep the belt off the entire workout, which I prefer for workouts.

    Oly Squats
    185 lbs x 12 x 3 sets

3 sets of reverse hypers super setted with roman chair situps
    12/15, 12/12, 12/12

    15 minutes of stretching

Rolled again tonight. Worked positions and submission options in the position. Was a lot of fun. Always seem to learn or think of something new when rolling.

    95 lbs x 5 x 2
    135 lbs x 5
    160 lbs x 3

    190 lbs x 3
    220 lbs x 3
    245 lbs x 3
270 lbs x 3 Was going to do 1, but decided to go for a triple during the set
    190 lbs x 16

Close Grip- Thumb from Smooth supersetted with close grip chins
    165 lbs x 10, 8x4
    10, 10, 8, 8, 8, 8

You're gonna like this one then coke.

    Squats
    Bar x 10, 5
    145 lbs x 5 x 2
    215 lbs x 5
    285 lbs x 5
    Belt with these
    355 lbs x 5
    400 lbs x 3
    450 lbs x 1
    480 lbs x 1
    No belt
    355 lbs x 10

    Skipped on the GM's today

    Glute Hams-41 total reps- 15, 10, 9, 7

Back Extensions Supersetted with Hanging Leg Raises
    5 x 12

    15 minutes of stretching

Considering the deadlift workout we did Monday, which is why we skipped out on the good mornings, I am very happy with this one. 480 felt good for 2 or maybe even 3. Liking where I am at with the squat. 1 out of 3 lifts isn't bad.

    I knew it Coke!

    7/19

Overhead Press- on my own today at the town commercial gym. Did OH Press on its own and then supersetted chins between my next two exercises. There is only one place to do oh press without cleaning the weight and didn't want to lose the station being away for too long.

    Bar x 10, 5
    75 lbs x 5
    105 lbs x 5

    135 lbs x 5
    155 lbs x 3
    170 lbs x 1
    185 lbs x 1
    135 lbs x 13

Neutral Grip Chins- 8 total sets- 12, 10, 9, 7x5 = 66 total I think. Started and ended with these
    In between
    DB side laterals
    20 lber's- 3 x 15
Floor Skulls with 70 lb fixed BB- 3 x 15
Chins were tougher this way then doing them in between the pressing I believe

    Incline DB Curls
    50 lber's x 19 reps rest paused(10, 5, 4)

    15 minutes of stretching

    7/20

    Deads
    135 lbs x 10, 5, 5,
    245 lbs x 5
    295 lbs x 5
    355 lbs x 5

    415 lbs x 5
    465 lbs x 5
    525 lbs x 1
    Added Belt
555 lbs x 2. Just for the heck of it
415 lbs x 13(8 double overhand grip immediately followed by 5 with a mixed grip)
the 415 and 525 were 5 lbs more than the intended sets, but it made it easier with loading the weights and collars. Just lift it.

    Oly squats
    205 lbs x 12 x 2
    295 lbs x 10

Reverse Hypers Supersetted with Roman Chair situps
    3x12

    15 minutes of stretching.

    230 lbs x 3
    260 lbs x 1
    275 lbs x 1
    205 lbs x 12. Meh!

Close Grip Bench Supersetted with Close Crip Chins

Was going to get a full body session tonight, but had to help my parents re-arrange furniture, so that counts. Back to the 5-3-1 grind Monday.

Lets get back into it and set some pr's!

Squat/Deadlift- Yep, both on the same day. Once I get conditioned to do this, it will be great. Really like getting right into the deadlifts after squatting.

    Squat
    Bar x 10, 8
    145 lbs x 5
    205 lbs x 5
    265 lbs x 3

    315 lbs x 5
    360 lbs x 5
    410 lbs x 10- belt

Deads- no belt for any sets
    255 lbs x 5

    325 lbs x 5
    375 lbs x 5
    425 lbs x 8

Dropped my working max to 90% since after squats. Will probably take a round to get used to.

Glute Hams super set with Hanging Leg Raises
    8/12 x 3

15 minutes of stretching. Kill it and get out of the gym.

I've been considering going back to doing squats and deads on the same day lately...that rocks, but only if you can handle it, lol.

Awesome squats and pulls in here, Joey!

    Do you compete at all?
This is the true joy in life, the being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one; the being thoroughly worn out before you are thrown on the scrap heap; the being a force of Nature instead of a feverish selfish little clod of ailments and grievances complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy - George Bernard Shaw

I did 3 INBF competitions after college. Really didn't look very good, but the last one I did was the best. Always competed as a novice and there were few people in my class. Don't really have the frame for it either. I have paid my IPA dues and just sent my registration in for the PA states meet in September. First one of these, so whatever total I set will be an all time pr.

Just stretched and relaxed tonight. Was going to walk, but too humid to be outside.
