The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

It’s no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Next Saturday. 9/11. Those were 75% of planned openers. Like you said, just wanted to wet my beak a little.

We shall see. If Friday's theme was just getting the beak wet, today's was just the tip.

    Squat
    Bar x 10, 5
    135 lbs x 5 x 2
    225 lbs x 3
    255 lbs x 1

    Bench
    Bar x 10
    95lbs x 6
    135 lbs x 3
    155 lbs x 1

    Deadlift
    135 lbs x 3
    225 lbs x 1
    290 lbs x 1

Stretch. Weight is at 215 lbs, so don't have to worry about that at all.

So did the IPA PA State Meet in Hanover today. Nicely run meet and some good lifting. First meet for me. Did the 220 raw open class. Weight was 216 lbs at weigh ins.

    Squat
    1st attempt-445 lbs-Good
    2nd attempt-490 lbs - Good
    3rd attempt- 520 lbs- Good

    Bench
    1st attempt- 255 lbs- Good
2nd attempt- 290 lbs- no lift
3rd attempt- 290 lbs- no lift
The plan was to do 290, 315. The first time with 290 was really bad. The second was a better attempt, but just didn't have it. What can you do.

    Deadlift
    1st attempt- 500 lbs- Good
    2nd attempt- 550 lbs- Good
    3rd attempt- 600 lbs- Good

If I even had a poor bench for my size, I would have an okay total today. I wanted to hit 1400 lbs and originally was aiming for something like 510/310/580, so to go past the initial goals of my squat and deadlift, at the lowest bodyweight I have been at in some time, it wasn't too bad.

Really disappointed with the bench, but the deadlift is a 40 lb pr and was pleased with it. Others who competed will vouch that the IPA is using a different type of deadlift bar now, which doesn't have nearly the whip that others do. That really didn't affect me, but it did for some. Some of our other gym members had good days. Jon who lifts part time at our gym and sometimes at his home posted a 1700+ lb total, including a 700 lb squat and a 635 lb(I believe) deadlift. Chad posted his first full meet total with +1300 lbs at 165 lbs. Stan increased his bench record to 650 lbs and just missed 675 lbs. Will 700 be hit in the next year or so? Bentz was only able to get a bench in at 540 lbs and shut it down after that. He is looking to get his record back which is now at 570 lbs. Bentz still has the total record for his class and age group. Darren was not able to get a squat or bench in so shut it down, but will be back.

I was impressed again by a 165 lber, Dan Antonucci(Sp?) who just has a ridiculous deadlift. He pulled 560 lbs and just missed 570 lbs. Nice guy too, as I talked with him for a few minutes between the bench and deadlift. Andy Ruse, who lifted raw at 242 down from 275 was pretty impressive as well. He squatted just under six at 590, benched 390 and pulled 620 for 1600. There were other good lifters, but those two stood out to me.

So, I got up early Sunday, got to the field early and spent a good amount of time warming up for my flag football game. These games are 9 on 9 and are pretty much full contact minus the tackling of the ball carrier. Things were going good and I felt I was playing well, until I tore my left bicep in the second half. I finished playing the game using just my right arm and immediately began treating my arm when I got home for the rest of the day. Tried to see an ortho today, but needed to see my PCP first. Saw him for all of 3 minutes and he referred me to the ortho. Appointment for that is tomorrow at 3:45 pm. Hopefully can get this taken care of and get back on track. Training will obviously need to be adjusted for now.

So this is it for now. Surgery tomorrow. Will probably start up after new years with a 5x5 scheme after the arm is rehabed. Will start very light and hopefully get back to where I was at by June or so. If I can get vids of the meet, I will post those in the near future.

It will take some time to be "back", but I am estatic just to be able to do this right now. I am exactly 6 weeks from surgery right now. I didn't even expect to be out of my splint yet with the way this was explained to me prior to the procedure.

    10/28

    Squat

    45 lbs x 5 x 2

    100 lbs x 5
    140 lbs x 5 x
    175 lbs x 5 x 2

    Incline

    45 lbs x 5

    65 lbs x 5
    85 lbs x 5
    105 lbs x 5
    125 lbs x 5

    Deads

    135 lbs x 5

    160 lbs x 5
    200 lbs x 5
    245 lbs x 5
    290 lbs x 5

    Sits ups 3 x 12

15 minutes stretching. Hams are very sore from squatting Tuesday, but weights don't feel heavy. Just don't want to squeeze to hard with my arm yet. Deads were comfortable.
