The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

It’s no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Putting in some solid ass work Joe. With benching, im at pinky at ring too. The closer the better. I used to raw bew bench as wide as geared, with index on ring. Now Tone has me all the way in to get the lats as tight as possible which makes a huge difference. Im actually going to try thumb off smooth to see how that feels. Being so close really prevents pec strain also i feel. Everything is in perfect alignment. Keep it up bro.

    +1.

My bench progress has been amazing since I brought my grip in. Even with your long arms, you will have more power off the chest. I have found that your grip needs to be relative to your shoulder width. If you have narrow shoulders and you go wide you will not be able to engage your lats at the bottom.

Konstantin benches close for the same reason Brian just said.

    http://www.lift-run-bang.com/2010/04...tantinovs.html

"When I was young, I listened to “wise” people who said that grip should be maximally wide – 81 cm. The range is shorter and to press heavier is easier like that. But over time, I understood that this does not work for me. My arms are long, and in the bottom position I was not able to engage muscles of the back. As a result I constantly had injuries of shoulders and pecs. But my close grip bench press has always been good. At 17 years of age, I benched 200 kg with a close grip, but with glutes off the bench. I decided not to think too much about this, and I switched to close grip. After that I had no injuries, no pain and strength has been increasing slowly but constantly. But triceps must be very strong for such benching!"

Guys, thanks for the feedback. I will hit my groove with that grip for sure. Just need to reacclimate and figure out how to get the best leg drive. The leg drive and staying tight is more important, in my mind, than the grip. Quick update tonight so I can watch the season premier of Mad Men. Don Draper FTW!

Yeah Brian, it was a nice Saturday morning. Tonight was fantastic.

    Squats
    Bar x 8, 8
    135 x 8
    185 x 5
    230 x5
    275 x 5
    345 x 5
    Belt from here
    390 x 3
    435 x 1 x 2
    455 x 1
This was going to be 435 for 3 sets. On the first set on the way up I started to lean forward, but quickly corrected myself and blew it up fast. Second set I re-focused and killed it. Decided to up to 4 plates and a quarter. That one flew too. I just can't have any lapses. Finished with 405 x 4. Was goign to do a triple, but killed the first 3 and wanted one more. Last rep was a fight with form. Weights don't feel heavy, it is the struggle with keeping the form right now. But, this was one of the better squat sessions in some time.

    Good Morning
    170 x 5 x 3

    Lying Hamstring Curls
    80 x 15, 15, 12

    Hanging Knee Raise
First set did 5 reps with a 5 count hold at the op and 5 count negative. Second set was 4 reps of this. Last set was a 15 count hold at the top and 10 count negative just one time.

    Stretch.

Nice skwats! Do you ever use wraps or are you always a belt-only raw dog?

Chris haven't wrapped in some time. Debating doing the wrap raw class at the next meet though. If I do I probably will only put them on in training one or two times prior to it.

Bench tonight. Not great, but not bad. Couldn't get my feet right initially and had little leg drive. Went up on my toes from the second single on because my shoes kept slipping. Hopefully won't affect deadlifting tomorrow night.

    Bench
    Bar x 20, 5
    110 x 5
    140 x 5
    165 x 3
    210 x 5
    235 x 3
    265 x 1 x 3. Last set actually did three reps.

Slingshot, 1/2 thumb from the smooth.
    265 x 6
    275 x 5, 4

    DB Bench
    70's x 15 x 3

    Pushdown
    25 lb stack x 25 x 3

    Stretch

    PWO Massacre Meal
Double QP with big mac sauce, 20 piece chicken nugget, and large chocolate shake.

    Life is good.

Rychlak's meets offer two types of raw. Here are the descriptions.

3.Raw Classic: The only support allowed in Raw Classic is the support of a belt and wrist wraps. Knee sleeves may be worn during warm ups and between attempts, but must be pulled down over the shin during the squat and/or deadlift. A single layer knee sleeve may be worn during the bench.
4.Raw Modern: Raw Modern combines the support of a belt and wrist wraps, as in classic, with knee wraps for the squat and/or deadlift. Bench only is not elgible for Raw Modern, they must compete as Raw Classic. Lifters may choose to take token lifts with knee support (wraps or sleeves) in Squat and/or Deadlift to be eligible for Raw Modern because they would meet the division's criteria. A Bench Only lift may be listed as Raw Modern for lifters who are entered in multple events, i.e. Full Power and Bench Only.

    Trained deadlifts today.

    135 x 5 x 3
    210 x 5
    260 x 5
    315 x 3
    390 x 5
    440 x 3
    495 x 1 x 3
550 x 1 just for fun. This might be a beltless PR. It was tougher than it should be, but good for squatting monday and the work leading up to it.

    Bent Over Row
    135 x 5
    175 x 5
    195 x 3
220 x 7. Cut it short as my lower back was shot.

    Modified Prone Row
    60's x 15 x 3

    Hanging Leg Raise
First set did a 5 count hold and 5 count negative for 4 reps and then 5 regular reps, second set was 2 reps with the tempo and 5 regular, last set was a 10 second hold and 10 second negative then nothing else.

    Stretch

These are some of the best times I have known fellas. Lets not have all this garbage bring us down.

Yesterday I just foam rolled(actually did the PVC one) and did some mobility work. Today was the last workout of this cycle before the de-load. Incline.

    Chins
    +25 lbs x 4, 5,5,5, 5, 3
    BW x 9, 8, 6
On these I go widest, closer, closest, closest, closer, widest with the weights. Final round with BW is widest, closer, closest.
