The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Am I explosive? Here's the video...

In the Louie Q&A, he said a 20" box jump with 140 lbs is considered explosive. I said that I'd give it a try and post the video here. Here it is. Bill tried it too.

Much respect Marcus! that is indeed explosive haha.

I think my best is 55lb DBs on the 20" box so I can relate to how difficult that is.

Buddy, I doubt you'd break. It's actually not bad, since you aren't landing from very high above the box. I can't even run anymore, but box jumps are fine. I ran one mile a couple of months ago and my knees were sore for two weeks from the impact of running.

Tank, you should give it a try. It's actually kind of fun to throw them in sometimes.

    I've jumped on a 30" w/ 45 lb DBs and 44" w/ 20 lb DB's. DeFranco's got some kid at his gym jumped on a 57" box w/ 20 lb vest, that is rediculous.

Awesome Travis! There's no way I can compete with your bench videos. Maybe I can beat you on box jumps, haha.

Thanks guys. I'm wondering if this is why my straight weight and chain squats are blah. Put bands on the bar and I'm moving. It's weird that I squat better with better with band tension. It must be the extra stretch reflex from the overspeed eccentric.

I can't watch the video on my work computer but am going to be incorporating more plyometric and conditioning work so this may be something fun to try.

Will make sure to take some video if I try anything cool.

    Travis,

I'm not sure. Louie said my technique was "pretty good" when he was out here for the seminar. I know the faster the bar goes down the faster it goes up. The bands help me with the fast down part. I definitely seem to have the same tempo down and up. I think that's why I'm slower with straight weight or chains.

Yeah, you can get into some weird grooves with bands and they can work out to your advantage, in your case

I used to train with a guy who'd "use" the bands when squatting.
