    drinking and veins

a few weekends ago i went out drinking with some old friends I ended up drinking a ton an feeling like death in the morning....One thing I noticed which was great was my veins were sticking out like crazy I could practically feel them. I am guessing its from the effects of the alcohole on the blood but not sure? I am one that enjoys veins and loved it but it was gone the next day

Alcohol is a diuretic actually ^^^ and your veins were in fact sticking out due to being dehydrated

Vasodilator and diuretic aren't two mutually exclusive things.

Vasodilator means it dilates your vascular system (ie, makes your the diameter of your veins larger)

"Diuertic" is related to your kidneys-alcohol is an ADH suppressor and increases urine output by decreasing the reabsorption of water in your kidneys.

Exactly what background do you have in health and nutrition? Alcohol is a indirect vasodilator because of the effects of it being a diuretic. A direct vasodialator is Nitric Oxide & C02, which is what they give heart attack patients. A diuretic is classified by definition is diuretic drug: any substance that tends to increase the flow of urine, which causes the body to get rid of excess water.

Now let me prove you wrong!!

LOL, I try...Not much to say after that last post eh? Other than something about my reading comprehension lol? I really don't want to argue with the people around her about bio chemistry and other things. A lot of people are misinformed about nutrition and its direct effects in relation to their own bio makeup inside the body. Just like in my other argument. People were trying to dispute the fact fat is not a main source of energy. ....If you really don't know that much about the subject, just leave it alone. If you start talking about routines and how to weight life I will not say a word because I don't know much about it..

    Cheers

You keep arguing with people without properly reading their posts.

Re-read the part of my post above where I said "aren't two mutually exclusive things,"-as in a substance can be both a vasodilator and a dieuretic. You then responded to my post suggesting that I argued that alcohol isn't a dieuretic. I wasn't arguing with you, but somehow you took it upon yourself to assume.
It's great that you are out to try and inform people about nutrition, but you take an overly defensive stance on almost every member post your read, and frequently resort to tacking on snide remarks and calling someone's "nutritional background" into question.

Because you sir have tried arguing with me numerous times. Only to find out that your wrong. Alcohol is not a primary vasodilator it causes vasodialation because its a diuretic, not because it its self is. Its a side effect. and in large amounts, more than 12 ounces actually becomes a vaso-restricting substance. So let me know do most people drink more than 12 ounces... Sure do... Therefor I don't know what the hell your saying and it all sounds incorrect.

12 ounces of alcohol? That would be 20 beers (assuming 5% ABV). Not many people can drink that much in a night...

New2Iron as far as I can tell you've just validated Mercuryblades' initial post which you intially tried to rip apart, you're just too stubborn to admit this. And if you actually try reading what people are saying without just looking to shoot them down you might actually learn something. There's a lot of real world experience on this forum regarding diet and nutrition which you won't necessarily find in a book.

    Lol,
I've given up on trying to reason with him, he just insists on arguing, even if we agree on something. He goes on google and tries to find ways to nitpick any non-explicitly stated detail. It reminds me of those people that came to my campus a few times, they had signs that listed people who were going to hell, my two favorites were "Disobediant wives," and "Catholics." When I was feeling frisky I'd engage them in a debate, but at some point the crazy got too much and not as entertaining anymore, and I'd move on.

Also, since when does 1 beer equal 2-3 shots in alcohol content? 2-3 shots of apple pucker maybe.
