    Floor Presses?

    Hey-

    I was curious to the benefits in floor presses? Do they help increase strength?

    Let me know if they are good or not.

    Ideas?

    Floor presses are great bench variation. They take the leg drive out of the movement, and help build the mid-range to lockout of your bench.

    I think floor presses are an awesome exercise. I think it also has helped me alot with my raw benching as well as my geared bench. I have never used bands with FP's before but someday I will throw them in the mix.

    If I use it as a max effort, I will do as many sets as it will take to get to my max weight. If used as an accessory I would probably do 3-4 sets for 10-12 reps with different grips. So you could either do them first or second.

    I just threw in floor presses yesterday as accessory work on my military press day of 5/3/1, mostly as a change of pace. You will get more shoulder and tricep work from these as opposed to chest due to the more limited range of movement. Oddly enough, I find when I pause at the bottom I get some nice chest work as well when I have to come hard off the floor (ok, something about that did NOT sound right. lol)

    Bench - 275X1 (working on rebuilding this)

    I use them as an ME exercise, but lately I have been using them as a supplemental lift after my ME exercise and doing 3-4 sets of 8-10.

    What is better to keep your legs staright put or bent. Dave tate says to switch it up but he recommends straight out. Do u do more work with your upper body when your legs are straight out as opposed to bent?

    I have started doing them most weeks for a second exercise, they are IMO great for working the triceps hard and a very strict movement.
    I use a pinkies just inside the rings grip with legs straight and do mostly sets of 5-10 reps for 3 work sets.
    I have noticed a lot of big benchers use them on and off so that's good enough for me.
    Squat briefs only 625 @ 210
    Bench geared 525 @ 210
    Deadlift geared 650 @ 220

    I keep my legs straight because otherwise I tend to end up using a little leg drive if they are bent.

    I tend to do both, 2 with my legs straight and 2 with the legs tucked under my ass.

    The floor press are very good specially for triceps. I prefer the close grip press.

    I will change it up, but I mostly like to keep them straight out. It feels much harder.

    We have been doing them as either a ME (1 or 3 reps) or a supplemental lift (3-6 reps) when our group trains.

    I once saw someone do them with their feet crossed over each other and I thought that was pretty cool for keeping yourself honest. I don't think it matters much since you wouldn't be using your legs wherever you put them.

    Close grip floor presses have done wonders for my bench. Great movement. I'm not too good at them, but I'm starting to like them

    Floor presses are a great exercise! They're esp. good for lock-out strength... I mix em' up w/3-4 bd. presses some weeks.

    I use them sometimes, for me I think they work low end strength. The bar hits me at the bottom.

    I am a big fan of floor reps. I used to use them as an ME exercise. I know I am going to use them as an RE exercise.

    we love to do floor presses with alot of chains, last time we did them it was with a piece of foam under the back to make it a pull press instead of to the elbows. try it sometimes, the lockout is ******ed with the chains.

    They are in my rotation for ME day, but I want to start adding them as accessory also. I switch it up also with legs straight and bent.
