The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Its no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

I already got a question. I've seen a template I plan on using, it was a 1RM set at 90%, and then 3 singles at a cycle 1RM percentage, so for me I'd do a single deadlift at 535, and then 3 true singles at 525. Would that be too much? Or go by feel? From what I see in the book, it references just 3x3 work, 1 set of 1 rep @ 85%, and then the same at 92.5% for week one.

Got my EFS elbow and knee sleeves in, man are these things tight! As in, cut off circulation tight. I'm going to stretch them over two barbells with one hanging with weight on it for a few hours and see how that goes. The knee sleeves I think will be fine with some baby powder but I may stretch them a bit to help get broken in. Got the rest of the bands in so we're complete there.
Really looking forward to the next few weeks of training. Brian helped set up a sweet looking template, so it's really gonna be awesome busting ass.

Well, today sure was a blast in the garage. The entire family was out for deadlift night, 5 of us in a rotation. Everyone hit all their reps for 5/3/1 + BBB, except me, I go off other accessories.

    335 x 5
    390 x 5
    440 x 8 7 felt good, quick reset on rep 8.

    Deficit on a 100lb plate
    365 x 3 x 4 sets

    DL against doubled monster minis
    225 x 4 x 2

    Rows-Rev grip
    135 x 12 x 3

    Shrugs
    225 x 30

By the end of the shrugs my grip was fried. Shut it down. Really good session though.

    Bench 5/3/1 week 1 5's
    DB's x some
    bar x 10
    95 x 10 slow
    135 x 5

    Work
    190 x 5
    220 x 5
    250 x 5+ (10)

    Monster Mini's
    135 x 5
    185 x 5
    225 x 5

    Incline DB's
    50's x 30 x 2 sets

Triceps Ext-Had this football bar look-a-like for a while. I took the olympic sleeves off and use the standard plates on it, I didn't trust the shoddy welds and thinness of the bar to oly plates, but the standards work fine for what I use it for.
    65 x 15 x 2

    Football bar rows
    65 x 10 x 2 squeezed at the top

    DB Rows
    70 x 20 per arm

Overall good workout. I'm completely enjoying the comforts of home while working out again. Makes it so much more convenient. Check was sent off for down payment on the rack, so should be hearing them TSS soon regarding it. Hopefully mid Feb for pick up, should be nice getting away with the misses in San Antonio around Valentines day. We'll get a nice hotel, I'll spoil her a bit while we're there. She's the one that's made this whole garage gym thing happen for me again, and she's been adamant on getting top notch stuff instead of the junk we had before.

AM weight after a huge breakfast and carb nite 287.0. I've rethought my plans and I'm shooting for 260 for the meet weight in May. Since it's not a serious meet per-say, non federation cash meet I'm doing with a buddy who's getting back on the platform, I'm not concerned about the weight. I do want to hit 242's this year and compete in that class, and then next year really shooting to hit 220's by mid 2015. I also plan on hitting a full power meet this year to see where I stand overall total wise.

Get some socks that go to the knee for those deadlifts my friend and save the shins. Looks like 2 more reps in the bench press if you had a spot. Thins are looking on point!

Good stuff mate. One thing, have you tried pressing from the level of your collar bone on the military presses for a greater ROM and maybe driving your elbows forward before you press?
    Current 1RM's - Bench 264lbs (Target 308lbs)/Squat 396lbs (Target 352lbs)/
    Deadlift 429lbs (Target 440lbs)
    BIG 3 TOTAL at 220lbs (28% BF) = 1089lbs
    6ft 2, 234lb fat, hairy ape!

I typically do. I was babying my elbow trying to not jack it up again and making sure there wasn't any pain, so I tried keeping most of the weight on my shoulders. I noticed in the video I do definitely need to get more ROM on the presses.

    I.Am.Not.A.Squatter.

    Gotta get them better somehow.
Tonight I was supposed to get 280x5, 325x5, and 360x5.

    What I did...
    280x5
    325x5
    360x3
    405x1
    405x1
    405x1

I'm contemplating starting T Baggins 2x2 program. It would be 70% 2x2, 80% 2x2, 90% 2x2. I could further modify smaller jumps between, such as 70%x2, 75%x2, etc up to 90%x2. I don't attack the weights on squats like I do dead lift or bench, that's for sure. Looking forward to making some changes, getting some progress going. I've said before I'm going to strip my squat down and start from a crazy light weight, I may just have to end up doing that. We shall see.

I've been watching videos on back and elbows and everything I can get my eyes and ears on. Rippetoe's explanation of squat grip made the most sense to me.
