The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Its no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Thanks man, I do too. If it doesn't get any worse, swelling/bruising/etc, all the wonderful things that accompany a tear, I'll likely push through this week keeping my mind wide open to any pain, and shut it down before anything happens. I'm actually feeling really good right now, it seems stretching and moving around really helps it.

I really think that's where it happened, I felt a little tightness during my 2nd set, and should have said something, but I'm usually stubborn. I'm definitely staying away from them for a while.

So as I said, right now, I'm feeling pretty good. No direct pain, just some DOM's, the usual. Gonna keep a real close eye on it and see how it goes. Just gotta be patient and careful. Definitely not going to be doing any dips or anything at all that causes any pain whatsoever. I'm trying not to get pissed about it, I know injuries are a part of the game, but my timeline to 300 is closing in, and with the plan I've got I gotta stay on the road to progress. I'm also curious as to how this will effect my deadlifts, if at all.

I hope it's just a minor pull, even they can be pretty painful.
Negative dips can be brutal, do them sparingly.

Yeah, I don't think I'll be doing them anytime soon.

That's the same thing I was doing, slow negatives to box then exploding up to lock out, back to slow negative. I think I just need to drop the dips, haha.

Woke up today, feeling pretty good. Arm is only a little sore now, very little pain at all. I put bengay on, a tiger balm patch, and slept with a heating pad, woke up today took a contrast shower and did some stretching. Gonna go ahead with the squat workout tonight, see how I feel. If any pain exsists, I'll shut it down quick.

    PEOW!!!!

    Skwat!!!!???

    OHP
135 x 3 I was raising the bar with 2 45's on it from bench height to squat height, and wanted to just rep a few OHP's for good measure. No pain at all, anywhere. Shoulder/underarm feels great.

    Warm Ups
    135 x 5
    225 x 5
    285 x 3

    Work
    300 x 3
    340 x 3
    370 x 3

    Pause at Bottom
    270 x 5 x 2 sets

All squat sets felt great, 370 x 3 flew up until last rep, it moved a little slower, definitely not a grinder though, definitely not.

Clam Shells w/Monster Minis right above knee.
    12 x 3 sets on butt
    24 x 1 set each side

    Leg Extensions
    50lbs x 12 x 3 sets

    Leg Curls
    75lbs x 12 x 3 sets

    Leg Raises
    12 x 4 sets

Damn it felt good getting back under the bar and doing a full squat workout. 370 didn't feel bad at all. Pause squats sucked, the last rep each set I felt like I was down there for 5 seconds before calling myself up, boy that sucked a lot, ha. Ready for my soak now. I'm freaking stoked about the squat workout, it really felt good. I felt myself sitting back on each rep, keeping my weight back, head up, bar path was stable and solid all the way through. Was an awesome workout. My right arm didn't bother me one bit. Picked up a 45 with it, just to test it out, and no pain at all, no tightness nothing. I'd say it's likely 95% back. Of course theres still some discomfort at certain angles and such, but it's no longer constant.

Hell I am too. I freaked myself out about it by reading about pectoral tears and surgery and all that mombo jombo, but my brother is going through a detached muscle right now in his shoulder, and explained the excrutiating pain he's in, and I felt a little better about my situation.

I'm still enjoying the fact that I can have a full work session with 300+ on squats. I remember about a year and a half ago, 315 was my 1RM, I've added 110lbs to that, feels good.

    Schedule for this weekend

If it's not raining...mow yard, weed eat, remove old black rocks from bushes, replace with new shiny white rocks, trim bushes. Hopefully this will all be done Tuesday, I'll probably deadlift Tuesday morning before yard work, we'll see.

Wednesday- No workout. Going to see about making another atlas stone, clean garage up, attempt to make enough room to pull the Excursion in the garage, take apart windshield wipers to check for a break between the motor and wipers, have alternator and battery tested, batter light flickered while driving home last night, I'm partially thinking it was a bad ground or something got wet somewhere since it hasn't repeated itself, we'll see. Lifetime warranty on alternator, need a new battery eventually anyway, it's 1.5 years old.

Thursday- Session at Metroflex, going back to heavier sets with lower reps, staying away from dips, I've had enough thank you very much. Rest and relaxation after session, maybe some light triceps work that evening.

I use to do dips back in my younger years but a few guys pointed out the abuse my shoulders take already from the heavy pressing and squatting, so now I just stay away from them. Many have also said that dips is a compromising and unnatural position for the shoulder. But I do know some swear by the movement, find what works best for you is the best thing.

Yeah, it really wasn't pleasant, ha. I think I'm definitely gonna be staying away from them for a good while, at least until I'm weighing quite a bit less and pressing quite a bit more.

Pause squats are tough. You can be feeling good and get stuck in the hole and think to yourself, "o-o." Fine work and impressive gains. Some people just don't tolerate the dips. Great movement, but not worth the risk if your body says no. I caught your comment in hugs journal. Anytime bud. That would be fun.

Yeah, my body most certainly without a doubt said hell no to the dips, I'm gonna listen, haha. Pause squats are certainly not my favorite, but make the burn feel so good. I enjoy them when they're done.
