The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Its no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

I'll preface this entry with this...I fell asleep at 8am yesterday and woke up at 1:50pm. Slept like ass. Woke up sore. Went to work for 14 friggin hours, felt tight most of the night, and low on energy, wasn't really looking forward to deadlifts today, and had seriously fucking considered just doing prescribed work, and not going for anything extra, but that'd be kind of bullshit since I said I was going for 585. So...screw it. After I got in the garage, I started feeling better. Music going, who cares, lack of sleep, tired, unmotivated...these workouts my brothers, are the ones that make us men. These workouts are the ones that set us aside from the everyday average Joe.

    Deadlifts
    Warmup
    135 x 5
    225 x 5
    315 x 3

    Work!
    390 x 2
    445 x 2
    495 x 1
515 x 1 +5lb PR Moved SLOW...video below this. I felt like I stood over the weight for far too long. I usually step in to it, attack and pull, I think being tired had this effect. I wasn't sure of myself, I didn't feel tight through my midsection, and in the back of my mind I still had the thought of my chest and arm ripping open and hurting again. After the shins...it flies. Maybe some deficit deads are in order?

    7" block pulls
    315 x 1
    385 x 1
    455 x 1
    505 x 1
    555 x 1
585 x 1 God damn this is heavy, and it felt heavy. But..it's heavy...it's going to feel heavy. Felt good, really really good though. +30LB PR, only because I have more weight now and was able to add more to the bar that 555, haha.

    Shrugs
    225 x 5 x 10 sets
    315 x 10 x 2 sets drop set 225 x 10

    Rows
225 x 5 x 4 sets drop set 201 x 5 Yes 201...some of the weights I have a KG...thanks to craigslist. So I have 33lb plates, 11lb plates. It's kind of cool. Maybe some micro loading in the future.

And...that's all folks. I think I've done enough this morning, and have a LONG night of conditioning ahead of me. Gonna be a blast. There will be pics and maybe some video of tonights conditioning session at my buddies.

Oh I forgot to mention...the 7 year old boys voice in the background after the box pull is my son saying "told ya!!" when I asked if he thought I could lift it. And the clapping is my 9 year old, ha.

Tonight wasn't so much of a conditioning night as it was a pressing night it seems. Was happy to get in some DB pressing none the less, however the next time I'm out there we'll bring out the tires and sleds with the kettle bells.

    DB Press
    50's x 15
    75's x 10
    100's x 3

    Hammer Curls
    35's x 10
    45's x 10
    55's x 10

    Front Raises + Side Raises
    45's x 5 + 5 + 5 + 5

    Triceps Extension
    40's x 10
    55's x 8
    65's x 6

    DB OHP Press
    55's x 8
    65's x 6
    75's x 4

    Kroc Rows
    55's x 10 each arm
    65's x 8 each arm
    70's x 8/arm

    Upright DB Rows
    55's x 6/arm
    65's x 6/arm

That was about it for tonight. Felt good though, enjoyed the time out there with friends and my wife. Felt good.

Mark, you carry your weight pretty well man. There is a LOT of quality size under there.

Nice to have such a supportive family also. My mom still throws a fit if I weigh my chicken or rice before dinner. I've been doing that for two years now lol.

Thanks Luna, hopefully we can continue the trend of going down on the scale this week. With my new plan for my old plan, ha, I think we'll see constant loss all the way up to refeed day, and with one refeed day instead of 2, I think I'll be more likely to rebound to the weight loss after the refeed. I'm still going to be getting in some quality and probably some not so quality carbs, haha.

Thanks Chev, I've always been told I don't look as heavy as I am, a lot of people guess 280's or so. I've always been active, played football in baseball, and even made the baseball team when I tried out freshman and sophmore years, football took over Jr and Sr years. Always been active, just had shitty diet. Figured I needed to change the diet and keep the activity level up before I get to a point where it's no longer a matter of will, it's a matter of ability. Don't want to be one of those who waited so long that their life is just pretty much over, and they're physically incapable of making change.

Mark did you ever practice any form of martial arts? I fenced for quite a few years and also practiced Shaolin Kempo for two years.

Haha, that's my buddies garage. He's in to MMA, and does all types of combat training, does a lot of training with weapons and such, goes around the DFW area training at different martial arts places, he's crazy, but always puts on a good show as far as going hardcore for workouts.

There's been a bit of recomposition going on, I like it. The scale hasn't moved all that much, but the body is showing different shape, I like it.

    AM Weight:346.4

Diet today is going to be light today. Not doing much of anything around the house, just relaxing. Had a massage today, went and picked up more protein, and got some Inzer 30inch knee wraps to play with on squat days. Hopefully will get some sleep sometime today as well, haven't slept well in a while, been getting 4-5 hours here and there, but not a full nights sleep. Maybe tonights the night.

Just watched the most recent video Mark, the pulls looked pretty darn good to me and neither of them were slow in my opinion. I'll be stopping in this journal a lot more often. Great stuff man.
