The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

It’s no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Sorry to hear about your uncle, Mark. If I'm not mistaken you recently lost your mom as well? Tough stuff.

Haha, I wanted to not do anything past squats, but Saturday morning all I did basically was stare at a wall, felt like complete crap. Last night sort of made up for it I guess, feeling good today, got some DOMs in the legs but it's all good.

Thanks man, I gotta get me one of those conditioning days like you got, that'll set me up real good for the weight loss if I could throw in a full conditioning day at least once a week.

Thanks OR. Squats were no bueno, 390 sucked bad. I didn't hardly rest between sets, and form was different. My arms were out to the collars instead of under me, so when I was in the hole me hands were hitting/getting squished under the weight against the pins for the first 2 reps. I reracked the weight and lowered the pins to where they're supposed to be, and did the 3rd rep. It was just bad, haha. At least I got all the reps in I guess. Benching felt great. I think I was just tired after the squats. 210 didn't feel much heavier than 185, there's usually a distinct difference for me.

Shorter rest periods have a big effect on strength i find. Good job getting the reps in even though it wasnt feeling well.

Nice job on the squats Mark. I like it when I accidentally load up a heavier weight than called for and still hit my reps. Great feeling imo. Keep it up!

Thanks Nick, sucked, but just bared down and got it, thankfully. I hate bailing out on squats, just scary.

Can't post a video from work. My description... I sit on the ground, feet flat and knees up, in a sit up position. Monster mini's doubled around the knee area, and just open your legs against the bands as far as you can, slowly, really getting a stretch, then repeat.

I liked it after I sat there wondering why it was so fucking hard to get the 3rd rep, haha. The whole set sucked because I didn't check the safety pins beforehand. On the previous sets my hands were tucked under me like they're supposed to be, on the last set I screwed the pooch and didn't keep form, sucked. But still got it, felt good.

Well, let's just get right down to the nitty gritty shall we? Had a damn fine deadlift workout.

    Deads
    Warm Ups to 315 x 3
    405 x 2
    465 x 2
465 x 1 Pulled for speed, felt real quick. All 465's felt good.

    Block Pulls
    405 x 1
    465 x 1
    515 x 1 Felt light and easy

    Speed Pulls
375 x 3 x 6 sets with 1 minute rest between sets. Really felt good.

    Shrugs
    257 x 20 x 5 sets (257lbs...used 11lb plates, ha)

    Bent Over Rows
    225 x 5 x 2 sets
    135 x 6 x 3 sets

    Push Ups
    10 x 2 sets

The entire workout felt really really good, everything felt light and easy. Felt good.

HUGE pulling session Mark, you killed it man! The back has to be feeling it after a session like that. Way to put in the work. I like the high rep BB shrugs, I do the same thing myself, 5 sets of 20. Really works my traps over good.

Thanks a ton KB! The back was definitely screaming after this session. I don't actually do 20x5 sets, I usually do 20 x 2 or 3 sets then do one huge set at the end of 40-60 reps. I figure it's better to just get it over with.

Well...I was still feeling a bit down about my bench day and how I screwed myself in to trying to do a complete squat workout, then do a bench workout right after. That simply just didn't work out the way I had planned. So...I did deadlifts, soaked, played some MLB2k11 online (15 inning thriller ended up winning 7-6, ha) then decided to hit some upper work.

    Bench
    Bar x some
    135 x 5
    185 x 4
    225 x 3 -Easy
    245 x 2 -Easy
265 x 1 -New PR for single, probably could have hit 270 for 1, but didn't want to chance ruining my high from the PR.

    -Add slingshot-
    265 x 3
    275 x 3
    295 x 1
315 x fail Too much of a jump
305 x 1 Grinder. My first 300+ bench, I know it's with a slingshot and doesn't count, just feels good handling that weight, and the slingshot doesn't do everything, it only handles off the chest for me, about 4 inches off my chest there's no more flexing to help.

-no slingshot, add reverse strong bands-
    305 x 3
    315 x 3
    365 x 2
385 x fail after a LONG battle. Was about an inch away from lock out, and just couldn't do anymore, haha.

    -Seated OHP half reps-
135 x 12 x 2 sets Top of head up an each rep

    Reversed Flys
    15's x 12 x 3 sets

    Laying Triceps Extensions
    30's x 10 x 4 sets

    Hammer Curls
    30's x 10 x 3 sets
