Have been discussing things back and forth with Josh, plan of attack is this:
    Bench
    1st:250
    2nd:270
    3rd:285

    Deadlift
    1st:480
    2nd:520
    3rd:545

That will give me a 5lb PR in bench, and a 15lb PR in deadlift. Assuming I get 285 and 520, that still gives me an 800lb total, which is my goal for this meet.

Small request: If you guys can keep Josh in your thoughts and prayers, he's now going through the loss of a family member.

It's a push pull meet, I know I know, not a true "powerlifting meet", haha, but it's close and cheap.

    MEET WRITE UP
Had a blast! It was a smaller meet but had some great lifters there. Big Al Davis was benching, and put on a heck of a show. He benched 670 easy, looked awesome. Tried for 690, I think, and missed it. It was a lot of fun watching him put those big numbers down like that. His opener was 610, amazing watching him.

There were only 3 SHW novice lifters there tonight, looking at one of them, I was expecting at least a 2nd place finish. The judges all did a good job, main judge was a good guy, we all got good press calls, there wasn't any huge pause, as soon as the weight was on the chest and motionless, press was called.

Bench went decently for me I think, from not being able to bench 225 in March, I'd consider my showing tonight a solid outing.
Opener: 250 Was smooth and quick, felt really good so I upped my 2nd attempt.
2nd Attempt: 280 This is my current PR, nailed it, no problems at all, was feeling great. decided to go all out.
3rd Attempt: 300 Got a great handoff, smooth down and then got stuck! Haha, I don't know if it was just me getting psyched out at 300 or what. I never heard the judge yell bar is loaded, so I stood around for a bit and then just went in to it. I usually heard bar is loaded and exploded mentally and get in to a frenzy. At least I nailed 280, felt good.

Deadlift: Man this was phenomenal! I was hoping for at least a 520lb deadlift tonight. Warmups felt really awesome, worked to 405 for a single, was nailing everything. Travis Christie, another guy that trains with Josh, was shooting for a 700lb DL, so energy was all over the place.
Opener: 480 Exploded the crap outta this one. Got people talking after this. Everyone else's opener was slow, most struggled with their weight, I blew this one off the ground to lock out. Several people came up to me talking about how strong and easy it was. Sure makes a man feel good.
2nd Attempt: 510 Again, easy weight baby. This flew up, no problems at all, everything was great. This is the new SHW Novice class record, pretty cool hearing that.
3rd Attempt: 550..yes...550. Everyone there said I could have pulled 600, I made 550 look easy. This is a 20lb PR for me. I was so stoked to hit this. After I lifted, a few lifters had some issues with the bar and the chalk getting caked on there, there were some slippage issues. So, 2 guys got to repeat their 3rd attempts. Another guy from Metroflex Arlington pulled 620 nicely, and Travis pulled a strong 670, barely missed 700, got it nicely off the ground, he'll definitely get this in Decembers meet.

Results: I ended taking 1st in the SHW Novice division, and setting the new MSA record, upping it by 45lbs. The two others guys in my division didn't break 500 in dl. One left and went home after his 2nd attempt. All in all, I had an amazing first meet, and enjoyed the crap outta myself. Seeing Travis pull 670, and big Al benching ridiculous amounts of weight, really really inspires me. I think I'm going to continue training for powerlifting, while staying conscious about diet and bodyweight for a while longer now, I got the bug big time.

Thanks Nick, I outpulled my wildest imagination yesterday, 545 set in the back of my mind before the meet, and I would have been so happy with that, but seeing how well 510 went, Josh wouldn't let me do anything less than 550.

    Great job at the meet!

Why are there no side spotters when you bench though? That's dangerous!

That was something we went over at the end of the meet. The side spotters were there, they just didn't stay within reach of the weight in a FUBAR situation. It just didn't get discussed until after everyone had benched.

Quick Update: My next meet will hopefully be in early December. I really really want to go to that meet even if just to spectate/help load and spot. Benedikt Magnussun will be there pulling going for another world record, would be awesome to see that. It's on a Friday night, so I only need to get one night off work in order to be able to do it, shouldn't be a problem.

Congrats Mark! Record holder, thats awesome in your first meet! Glad to hear you want to stick with PLing. You can drop decent weight and still PL. It was a little scarey seeing no side spotters though. Never saw that before.

Plan: Meet in December, I want to bench 300 freaking pounds, deadlift 575, and weigh in at 310-315lbs.

Back on diet today, going high protein for recovery as I've been pretty sore lately. I really want to focus on upper body accessory work and build up my tris and chest as much as possible. I really feel my weakness is popping off my chest, once I get half way up I'm good to go. Just gotta keep working, and we'll make it all work.
