The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

I really hope so. I need to get my ass back in gear and start busting ass. I think I'm on my way so far.

Not every session, no. It wasn't really planned, I was still amped up and felt like I had some energy left, so after the drive home it was all still there, figured what the hell, why not go get some more work in, light weight accessory stuff.

Had a great workout today, it's amazing what a clean diet with clean carbs, and restarting supplements will do for you, felt like I was firing on all cylinders today, awesome. It is a deload week, but still flew threw this workout quite nicely.

    Bench
    Bar x 30
    135 x 10
    135 x 10
    185 x 6 x 4 sets
    -add slingshot-
225 x 14, held at lockout, deep breaths, + 6 reps. Was great.

    Arnold DB Press
    35's x 10 x 2 sets
    20's x 10 x 2 sets

    Reverse Fly's
    15's x 10 x 2 sets

    Lateral Raises
15's x 10 x 2 sets Freakishly slow, each rep took about 5 seconds, held at the top, slow descent. Pure...fucking...pain. Loved it.

    Nose Crushers
    55lbs x 15 x 3 sets

Everything was badass and felt great. Knee is hurting just a bit, but icing it right now, feels better. I've been reading The Mens Health BIG Book of Food and Nutrition. It's got some interesting stuff in it, I think it'll help in laying the foundation to a normal diet for me.

Walked in to the gym today, and freaking cameras set up, was interesting working around that stuff. There's a company doing some reality show on the difference between bodybuilders like Branch Warren, and say...joe blow who basically lives out of his truck, but finds time to get to the gym every day to build the best physique you can. Metroflex is the kind of place where, Brian Dobson, the owner, is going to let you come there and keep busting ass as long as you do just that, bust ass, and not cause problems, without worrying too much about you paying gym fees. So we've got guys in there who are just about homeless, with decent physiques busting their ass every day to get a chance at stardom. There's such an amazing mixture of people in this place, it's awesome. Anyway, on to my day.

It was really cold, so I got there a bit early and did some dumbbell warm up stuff.

Bench-I used to really explode during warm up sets. Blasting as fast as I could. Today, I worked more smoothly, I felt the transition was better and less taxing during warm ups and kept more energy and gas in the tank for work sets.
    Bar x 20-extremely close grip.
Bar x 20-worked out to regular close grip
Also using a regular grip today instead of thumbless for bench. Seeing how it goes.
    135 x 6 x 2 sets
    185 x 5
    225 x 4
    245 x 4
265 x 4 I think this is a rep PR at this weight
270 x 4 Which would be another PR at this weight.

    Wide Grip Paused
    135 x 6
    185 x 6
    225 x 6
    245 x 6
255 x 6 Real grinder on the 6th rep, got it though.

    3board
    225 x 3
    275 x 3
285 x 3 Got out of the groove here, but was still muscling through with bad form on last 2
    295 x 3 Much easier.

    Tate Presses
    35's x 8
    45's x 8
    55's x 8 x 2 sets

Band Pull-a-parts(whatever the hell you wanna call them)
Mini band, hold it in front of you, pulling it apart
12 reps x 5 sets Did this instead of pec deck today, as it was occupied during filming, fuckers.

    Triceps Extensions with bands
20 reps each side x 3 sets non stop

    Front Raises with slow descent
    45lbs x 5 second descent for 1 minute
    45lbs x 5 second descent for 45 seconds
    45lbs x 5 second descent for 30 seconds

Everything was great today, had 2 sub par sessions the past 2 weeks, but bounced back strong today.

Thanks Terry. Really appreciate it man. It definitely takes some testicular fortitude to get in Metroflex and laid down the workouts with all the people around, but after a while you just become one of the guys, it's freakin awesome.

metroflex is awesome, i went to the Plano one a few times while i lived in the dallas area. I checked their website and didn't realize but they are really expanding and franchising the business.

They're definitely getting out. I think one just opened up in Phoenix not too long ago, the first out of state, I think. I haven't been to the one in Plano yet, but will get out there eventually.
