hmmm, I have been interested in bumper plates. I was wondering, since I lift in my garage, can I get a pair of 10lb bumpers and put them first, then put the normal 45lb steel plates after to reduce the noise when I deadlift? I have a 3/4" mat, but when there's a lot of plates on each side it still makes a noise. Still kind of loud. Are the 10lb bumpers the same size as your average 45lb olympic plate?

Usually the bumper plate diameter is slightly larger than your typical 45er.
If its just to insulate each iron plate from each other, then yes it guess it would be worth something. Expensive solution however. The iron plates would still clang against the bar though.
Bumpers are typically the same diameter as iron plates. I intermingle mine all the time, it doesn't reduce noise that much (enough to bother).
Also, you wont hurt a bumper, even a thin 10kg one if there is a 45 on the bar ith it. The iron will hit the ground and wont give, obviously. The problem is when you've got say a 10kg bumper, and a couple 25lb plates a side, the bumper is well overloaded and wont last long. A good rule ov thumb is never load more weight (in smaller diameter plate) than the bumper(s) itself. So one 10kg bumper + 5-8kgs in change is fine. One 10kg + 20kgs ov change, not so fine. One 25kg bumper + a 35 and a 10lb, fine, etc.
If you put a 10 lbs bumper plate and a bunch of 45's on the outside you will probably split / destroy it.
I have done it with the 55 lbs bumpers and it worked pretty well but I would not do it with smaller bumpers. It also depends on the exact diameter of your plates; for deadlifting it may work well but for power cleans and whatnot you probably want to put on the 55 lbs bumper and then 35's after that to give you enough spacing from the ground.
