I have been doing deadlifs off blocks so I don't destroy the floor. I use smaller weights to make up the height difference. I pull from about mid shin height, is this low enough?
Measure the bar when there are 45s on it and measure your current setup and ajust accordenly.
If you put the weight on plates... and you stand on plates also... then there is no difference .

Might be beneficial just to invest in a stiff rubber mat at the least. That way you can ditch the blocks altogether.
