The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Thanks Tank. I took it fairly slow as this is the first time I've done them. Pretty happy with 300 lbs.

    Foam Rolling & Warm-Ups
    Standing Ab Pulldowns - 70 x 25 x 4
    Reverse Lunges - 10 x 3
    Hip Flexor Stretches - 6 x 3
BW Squats - 25 x 3 (added knee sleeves; right knee hurt, arthritis or something?)

    Squats
    Bar x 10
    135 x 5
    185 x 5
    225 x 5
    275 x 3
    315 x 1 - belt
    345 x 3
    390 x 3 - briefs
    435 x 1 - easy rep

    Deadlifts
225 x 1 - big nasty bruise on my right shin; hurts like hell doing deadlifts - singles only!
    275 x 1
    315 x 1
    365 x 1
    405 x 1
    435 x 1 - about all I had in me tonight.

    BW = 200

Right knee still hurts and I'm not sure why. I discovered several pretty nasty looking bruises on my legs. Manual labor tends to be a bit abusive on a body.

I am trying to get more done during warm-ups and pre-exhaust legs before hitting the main sets. Hoping it will help with some conditioning and ability to get more work done.

    Warm-ups & Foam Rolling
    Internal Rotation - Miniband x 30 x 2
    External Rotation - Miniband x 30 x 2
    Face Pulls - 50 x 15 x 2
    Shrugs - average band x 25 x 2
    Bent Over Dumbbell Lateral Raises - 10 x 15 x 2

    SOHP
    45 x 15
    65 x 5
    85 x 5
    105 x 5
    135 x 5
    160 x 5
    180 x 3 - added wrist wraps & belt
    200 x 2
    135 x 10 x 2
    135 x 12

    Close Grip Bench
    225 x 5 x 3 - tough time staying tight and keeping my air

Rope Triceps Pushdowns (supersetted with one-armed dumbbell rows)
    60 x 15 x 3

    One-armed Dumbbell Rows
    90 x 20 - hook grip
    90 x 15 x 2

    BW = 190 lbs

In two weeks I've lost 5% of my bodyweight. I also lost roughly the same amount in strength on SOHP. Part of it was technique. Part of it lack of tightness. Technique got better with repetition.

Once I start eating again my bodyweight will probably rebound. I'm not worried either way. If I can stay at 190 lbs, I will be happy. If I go back up to 200 lbs, I will be happy.

    Bench (Close Grip)
    Bar x 20~25
    95 x 10

    185 x 3
    210 x 3
    240 x 3
270 x 3 - wraps & belt; not too bad for close grip
    315 x 1 - added slingshot; crappy set
    315 x 2 - better set

    225 x 6 x 2

Foam Rolling, Warm-ups, Ab Work - spent some time with lunges, reverse lunges, step ups, etc., supersetted with standing ab pulldowns.

    Squats
Bar x 20 - knee sleeves and hiking boots
    95 x 10
135 x 10 - right knee is still hurting some
    185 x 5
    225 x 5
    275 x 3
    315 x 3 - added belt
355 x 3 - added briefs, lacking some confidence tonight
    405 x 5 x 2 - second set better than first. ( I think this is a PR of some sort)

    BW = 192 lbs

    Lacked energy tonight.

Wearing my boots gave me a much better feeling for squats. It pretty much cured my tendency to fall forward. I was able to carry the bar a tiny bit higher on my back. That made it much, much easier on my wrists and low back. I didn't even need to wraps my wrists or chalk my hands tonight.

I really didn't need to add briefs at 355. But with my knee hurting and the lack of energy, it was a confidence booster. My first set at 405 wasn't bad. I felt I had another rep in me and probably two more on a good day. I hadn't planned on doing another set at 405, but I wanted to work on a few things. Second set was very solid.

    Solid training session tonight.

I am taking things slow and hitting some extra warm-up work. I would go for an MRI, but it doesn't hurt all the time and my deductible is huge. I'll keep taking it slow, use sleeves, and wraps when I go heavy.

    Foam Rolling & Warm-ups

    SOHP
    Bar x 15 x 2
    85 x 5
    105 x 5
    135 x 5
    155 x 3
    175 x 3 - belt & wraps
    185 x 3
    200 x 2
    210 x 0 x 2 - :furious:

    BW = 194 lbs

Not sure what the problem was tonight. 210 was not moving. I had changed my rack position and that might have prevented me from staying tight. I tried again with the rack back in the original position, and while a better attempt, it didn't get locked out.

It was an off night. That is about all I can come up with. I threw in the towel. Tomorrow is another day and I'll hit accessory work and some heavy rows.

Getting old sucks. Someone needs to set me up a HGH and test account!

In honor of Laura's WR, I benched tonight. My results, comparatively speaking, are laughable.

    Warm-ups

Bench - knee sleeve on right knee. Damned thing is still bothering me.
Bar x 50 plus a bunch of singles - close grip
95 x something, plus some singles - working on unracking the bar
    135 x 3, plus some singles
    185 x 3
    225 x 3
    255 x 3 - P.O.R.
    275 x 3 - R.O.R
    295 x 5 - added belt and wrist wraps
315 x 2 - Index finger on ring; added slingshot
    345 x 1
    365 x 1 - PR
405 x 1 - Reverse band bench; minus average band
    425 x 1 - PR
    445 x 2 - PR

    BW = 196 lbs

My goal was to come within 100 lbs of Laura's WR bench. I'm very happy I only had to use average bands to get there. However, if I had to use strong bands, I would have!

If I could get a lift off, I think I could hit 335 lbs.

Late for my niece's birthday party! Gotta go!

That's funny. Obviously reverse bands is still alot less supportive than a bench shirt, lol (although depends how you set it up). Good pr though.
    Best competition lifts:
    650lbs. raw squat
    441lbs. raw bench
    580lbs. raw deadlift

Foam Rolling & Warm-ups - Heater in the garage has a leaking coil. No heat. Spent some extra time warming up.

    SOHP
    Bar x 10
    65 x 5
    85 x 5
    105 x 5
    135 x 5
    155 x 5
170 x 5 - added belt, wrist wraps, & knee sleeve on right knee.
    180 x 5
    135 x 20
    135 x 14
    135 x 12

    Close Grip Bench
    225 x 10
225 x 14 - added wrist wraps as last set hurt my poor little wrists.
    225 x 12

Triceps Pushdowns (supersetted with Pendlay Rows)
    50 x 30 - forgot to reset the weight to 80 lbs.:unamused:

    Pendlay Rows
225 x 6 - bicipital tendonitis in right biceps lit me up like a f'n candle. F'me I'm getting old. :grumpy:

BW ~ 197 lbs - carb bloated goodness.

Foam Rolling & Warm-ups -its cold and the heat in my garage is inop.

Standing Rope Ab Pulldowns supersetted with box jumps
    80 x 20 x 4

    18" Box Jumps
    12 x 4 - my cardio sucks.

    Squats
Bar x 10 - knee sleeve on right knee
    95 x 5
    135 x 5
    185 x 5
230 x 5 - no energy, no pop out of the hole, getting light headed
    275 x 5
    315 x 5 - belt and other knee sleeve
345 x 0 - unracked the weight and immediately felt the room spin. What the hell?
345 x 5 - added briefs. A smart person would have dropped the weight and figured out what is wrong. An idiot adds gear and goes heavier.
    390 x 0 - didn't even unrack it.
    375 x 5 - added old, crappy loose wraps
    405 x 5 - tightened up those old wraps
    315 x 10 - back & lats started cramping

    BW = 195 lbs

As I was taking my shower I realized I've eaten one small meal of about 800 calories today. :unamused: I'm 3 pounds lighter than when I woke up. I win the idiot of the day award.

Went about 15 lbs heavier on squats than I had scheduled but I also wore more gear than I had anticipated. Almost a draw.

Back in the day when I was 18-19, I would of kept going, but nowadays I would of stopped and probably went home, lol. Either way, you didn't give up and you didn't pass out, nice work Tim!!!
