The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Ya nice PR on the bench. And it does get tough trying to keep good form when the weights get heavier, that's something I need to work on too.

    Foam Rolling

    Standing Ab Pulldowns
40 x 10 - first three all done in one set
    60 x 10
    80 x 15

    Deadlifts - conventional
    135 x 5 - hook grip
    185 x 5
    225 x 3
    275 x 3
    315 x 3
    365 x 3 - mixed grip & chalk
    405 x 3 - belt
    445 x 3 - PR easy set

    BW = 200 lbs

Had things to do, so had to finish up there. 445 was very easy. Had at least two more in me. Thought about lifting something heavier, but I had to run.

Wrenched my right knee earlier this week. I doubt my right knee will ever be pain free again. I got the basics done and got out before I did something even worse.

Thanks Tank! I keep plugging away at it and things continue to come along. My technique is better on heavier sets when I get tired. I still need to reinforce leg drive. On an average day, I'm sure I can put up 330 - on a good day 335. Maybe I'll get to 365 by winter!

    Foam Rolling

Standing Ab Pulldowns (supersetted with Good Mornings)
    60 x 20
    80 x 20 x 4

    Good Mornings
    Bar x 20
    95 x 10
    135 x 10 x 3

    Deadlifts (conventional)
    135 x 5 - hook grip
    185 x 5
    225 x 3
    275 x 3
    315 x 3 - mixed grip
365 x 0 - left elbow hurt like a bitch. Slapped an old knee sleeve on it.
    365 x 3 - belt
    405 x 3
430 x 5 - PR easiest set of the night.

    BW = 201 lbs

With my lower back problems, I'll never be comfortable hitting deadlifts for reps. By the time I'm done with Good Mornings, it already hurts. When I'm halfway through my deadlifts, it is damned painful. But I'm not going to let a lot of pain stop me from hitting 500 lbs and I'm currently right on track to do exactly that.

Worked up to 185 x 5 on SOHP. Feeling sore and beat up today. Judging from all the bruises covering my body I am sore and beat up! Apparently I got my ass kicked by someone or something and don't remember it. Large black and blue bruises... at least the one on my bicep is fading to a nice yellow now.

    Squats

    205 x 5
    245 x 5 - added knee sleeves
    265 x 5
    305 x 5
    345 x 5 - added belt
    385 x 5 - added briefs
    425 x 2 - fast
455 x 1 - I did a poor job unracking the weight. Very easy rep - damned fast too.

Everything moved very fast tonight. Work was easy but my low back is bothering me a lot. Not much I can do about it though.

    Foam Rolling & Warm-ups

    Deadlifts
    135 x 7
    225 x 5
    275 x 3
    315 x 3
    375 x 2
    425 x 1
    405 x 1 x 2
    425 x 1

Things didn't work out this morning. I was hoping for a PR and it did not happen. Sure, there are a lot of excuses - lifting in the morning, lifting fasted, not enough sleep - but the fact is I didn't get it done.

Deadlifts are my toughest lift. Thanks to heredity and injuries, I have a screwed up back. That means its going to be harder to pull 500 lbs. The strength is there. I just need a good day to put it all together.

Been out for a couple due to circumstances beyond my control.

    Foam Rolling & Warm-ups

    SOHP
    Bar x 15
    95 x 5
    115 x 5
    135 x 5
    165 x 5
    190 x 3 - belt & wraps
    210 x 3 - PR
215 x 3 - PR; used a tiny bit of leg drive on 2nd rep
    135 x 20
    135 x 14

Bench - close grip & slingshot
    225 x 13
    225 x 10
    225 x 8

    BOBR
    135 x 15 x 3

Today's high was only 94, which is much, much better than the 104 degrees of yesterday. I can lift when it is in the 90's but not when the mercury hits 100 or more. Damned humidity is way to high for me survive those kinds of temperatures.

    Foam Rolling & Warm-ups

    Squats
    Bar x 5
    135 x 10 - right knee sleeve
    165 x 5
    205 x 3
    245 x 3
    305 x 5 - both knee sleeves
    345 x 3 - belt
    385 x 1
    425 x 1 - briefs; easy & fast
    450 x 1 - knee wraps; easy & fast

    BW = 200 lbs

I need to work on unracking the bar. I never felt comfortable or stable getting under the bar and unracking it. Not sure what the problem is but I need to get it fixed. Everything went quick and clean. Another 500 lbs squat is easily doable. This is the first time in forever that my lower back felt fine after squats. Very happy about that!

The current heat wave is screwing up my workouts. I cannot lift when it is 100 degrees and 80%+ humidity. I did what I could this morning, but it is already very hot and sticky out there.

Really bummed my AC went out. :unamused:
