Oh ho ho... Do you have a training log? I should check out the competition.

I would be thrilled to hit 1800. I'll probably shoot for 700/425/700 and the extra 25 lbs. will get lost somewhere on a missed attempt.

    Good luck.

It is. The owners are Matt Gary (IPF and World Games coach) and Sioux-z Hartwig-Gary (IPF world champ). Kirk Karwoski comes by every now and then to train or hang out as well.

I don't have enough posts to post a link but it's supremesportspt dot com.

I'm impressed - that was a seriously strong effort. Then you go and hit 600 for a single? You'll do very well at Raw Unity. Good stuff!

lol thats was awesome I was happy when I hit 405x2 ATG last week and I weigh 11 pounds more than you lol. I gotta say squats are the only exercise where my mind gives up before my body most of the time on any type of max effort attempts. Assuming 700 is your max 462 is 66% of that and for me that would put 315 right around 66% of my perceived max and I think I'd cry and vomit after trying to get 20 reps. good work

Andy forgot to mention that he actually had drool spewing out the side of his mouth while psyching up for this set!

It's pretty motivating training with Andy seeing that he takes my 95% squat for sets of 20!

I am still trying to figure out what is crazier...the set of 20, or having it in you to work up singles afterwards!!!??? After a set of 20, if you are lucky enough to not pass out or puke, it's time to go home!!

    SICK WORK!!

Motivates me to try to break 315 X 20. But nothing is worse than trying to convince yourself to go for a new 20 rep PR. Except maybe at about rep 11 or 12 when you want to die thinking about the next 9 reps.

    Great Work Man!

WOW, very impressive! What did you end up squatting at the raw unity meet? And at first I thought you did GHRs extremely fast and I was going to ask you why you eccentric portion was so fast but then I realized you sped up the video. haha

The meet isn't until January 30, 2010. This will be my first powerlifting meet since 2002.

I don't know if the rules have changed, but in 2010 you don't have to squat 20 times.

Absolutely ridiculous, one of the most impressive high rep sets of anything I've ever seen

I have a log over at t-nation but I should really put it here instead.

Good luck man. 700 squat will go for sure. If I was squatting 462x20 that would put me there.

No sir, that is way too big for me. Raw Unity middleweights are 182-242 and its scored by wilks.

I will be trying to make 198 this year. I will total over 1800 with the goal of taking Cellis record. Going over 1800 is not a problem, making weight is a problem.

ahh, I was confused. That's awesome man. I"m hoping to make Raw Unity. Hopefully I can finish up my research for grad school before then so I can make it down there. I'll get my tail kicked because my bench is still pretty awful but it would be inspiring and a ton of fun

Do you havde any specific training template that is radically different from whats out there now? I know I have a long road to go and a 700lbs raw squat is super impressive but do you have any desire to shoot for a 900-1000lbs raw squat regardless of the naysayers?

Edit: I don't mean to thread hijack or get on too much of a soapbox, but I find it incredibly interesting how MENTAL all sports are. No on runs a 4 minute mile because every one says it can't be done then ONE person does it and everyone follows suit. I feel like the same can be said for powerlifting, maybe I haven't seen enough videos, but I can't think of anyone with a 900+ raw squat who isn't juiced, but I think its totally possible and once its out there and big news everyone will be doing it I'm sure. Anyone with the focus and determination as shown in this video will get it no doubt!

Thanks Ryan, I will take that luck!

Training is going well so far. Deadlifts are feeling very good this year and squats are going ok. Bench is being a little funny so im not real sure of a number yet. I will break 1800 but Im not sure of the weight cut to get to 198.

Get that pec of yours healed up for next year.

Haha whoa... a 900 pound raw squat at 242? Maybe Kirk Karwoski could have done it in his prime, but it's probably out of my reach. He has the all-time raw record with 826, but that was done years after he was at his strongest. I have no plans to lift heavier than 242 as health is more important to me than performance, and I don't think I could be a lean healthy 275er.

I don't have any kind of radical new training template. I've been making it up as I go along since my elbow surgery, but starting in December I'm going to be running Sheiko #29. After Raw Unity, I'm doing Smolov, and then will probably do another high-rep accumulation cycle after that.

Yeah... I guess fatigue may occur after 462 x 20... Maybe.

How is that deadlift cycle going for you? Are you still doing it?
