The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    First meet next Saturday...

Guys, I have my first meet next Saturday and just have a few questions.

What should my nutrition look like the days leading up to the meet, and the day of the meet? What and how should I eat during the day of the meet?
I take Results, should I take that the day of the meet? How do you guys get the adrenaline you need to try set 3 PRs in a single day?

Also, here are my thoughts for how I should stack my lifts, do they look ok?

My current gym maxes are as follows:

    Bench - 285 Pause rep
    Squat - 411
    Dead - 476

Here's my thoughts a week out from the meet:

    Squat - Opener - 365, 2nd - 405, 3rd - 420/430 (depending how I feel)
    Bench - Opener - 260, 2nd - 280, 3rd - 285/295 (depending how I feel)
    Deads - Opener - 420, 2nd - 475, 3rd - 495/500 (depending how I feel)

If I hit all my 2nd lifts and missed all of my third attempts, it would give me a total of 1160.

If I manage to hit my 3rd attempts I could hit 1200/1225

My goal is to hit 1200 at this meet.

    Any suggestions?

I've read a lot of the "first meet" threads before, and I always hear people say "don't worry about all that stuff, it's your first meet, just go learn and have fun." But I will be fairly competitive in this particular meet, and I don't want to come up short.

My 2nd attempts on Bench and Squat are both numbers that I have hit multiple times before, the dead lift only once.

    Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I eat everything in sight the week before the meet, but being 335+ I don't really need to think about weight classes or anything.

Typically, I'll eat a pretty big breakfast and then bring some juice and little things to snack on throughout the meet. I kind of just depends on how big the meet is.

For me, a lot of that has to do with resting the week before. The meet environment is great for getting "the adrenaline" flowing.

Personally, I think if your current max is 285, and it's your first meet, you should open lighter. The opener is just to get a good lift in, it doesn't matter what the number is.

I would take Results beforehand and bring another for before your DL flight if you think you need the boost. I take it your not cutting weight at all? if not, just make sure you get enough calories during the week. For meet day, Id bring a gallon water/gatorade mix to sip on, along with bannanas, bagels with some PB, whatever high carb/calorie goodies you like.
As far as your bench, if you hit 280 enough in the gym and are confident with it, id make 285 your second, and 295/300 your third. Thats just me though.

I lift equipped #220. If you need any help let me know. Before a meet I try to eat a good dinner and a decent breakfast but, more important is to be so hydrated that I'm BLOATED. I drink chicken broth and eat beef jerky for sodium to help hold in fluids and I drink a 2-3 GALLONS of Gatorade. I'll weigh in at #215 Friday night and weight over #230 Saturday morning. Good luck Bro.
