The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Yeah mate was loving the benching, I have become patient and in the big picture I'm happy!
At first when I knew I had to rest the benching I was a little down to say the least but I always think of the less fortunate and tell myself to focus on the good.
May have to change my journal name ha ha.

    Max effort lower-

Rack pull against TWO sets of quad mini's (420-430lbs tension) from middle of knee cap-
    One set quads +45 x5
    One set quads +135 x1
Two sets from here +45 x1
    95 x1
    135 x1
    185 x1
    245 x5 held last rep at lock-out 3 seconds- 20lb rep PR
135 x1 x5 with 15 sec between sets speed reps
    No straps all sets

    Barbell shrugs-
    Mixed grip
    225 x4
    315 x4
    405 x4
    455 x6/ 315 x15 drop set
    Double overhand grip
    135 x20
    135 x20
    135 x20
    No straps all sets

    Back raises-
    Bw x15
    25lb on back x10
    Bw x15
    Bw x15
Hold 3 sec at top of each rep

Very happy, would have liked to pull from mid shin or lower but did not want to risk it till back is 100%, the pulls from knees put less strain on my lower back.

Look on target for my quad mini +500 rack pull which I will do in approx 9 weeks and film.

Been training abs very hard and they have gone from weak to average in a short time.

WTF!! that is insane. No straps too. As well you didnt let go because that was going through the floor, lol.

Are you gonna go push/pull Nick?

Thanks Gatorman, yeah pretty insane I find they build the grip so well I no longer need any extra grip work, a strong grip means you can grip and rip for a faster pull.

Thanks Tank, you are a mind reader, I wanted to pull from the floor reverse bands this week and raw the following but my back is still not right and full range is harder on my lowerback.
I am working to strengthen my lowerback.

Borracho thanks, yeah funny thing is I thought my seated OHP PR was 135x 32 but in my old log all I can find is 29 so who knows.

Thanks Fylnn, no push pull brother I will do full meets down the track but have to fix the elbow up before I bench.
I am in this for the long haul, that's actually what made me change from wrestling to powerlifting- you see lots of champion lifters at 50 but no wrestlers lol.
I will start squatting up this week, I figure all the ass and ham strength I've gained will have maintained my squat to some degree maybe even have helped some.

Thank you Brian, I love them, ever notice how when you enjoy your training you make faster progress? That's what I try to do- keep it fun, HEAVY but fun.
Plus as I have said before I'm not sure why but I recover from band rack pulls pretty quick.

    Thank you very much John!!

Just to be clear I do not do the mega band tension rack pulls so I can write big numbers in my log, numbers I clearly can not pull in straight weight from the floor.
I do them because I feel they are so good for training the CNS, speed, grip, upperback, glutes, mental strength and teach you to pull back all in one movement.

Nick, when was the last time you had a deload week? If you want to pull a max effort reverse band next week, then the following week I would suggest making it a deload and then the week after that pull from the floor. That way you are fresh and ready!!!!! How many weeks straight have you pulled against bands?

Thank you very much Tank that's great advice, I have not deloaded in a while but I really only have 1 heavy day.
My speed lower does not take much out of me, same with my shoulders and lats day.
I do not feel overtrained, and a lot of my work is sets of 5 I don't pull for a max each week.
I will do a deload soon with the plan you said, I'm sure it will pay off so thanks again for the advice mate I really apreciate it!!

Thanks Kosh!! Lets see if I can be the king of progress lol- in 4 months I have added around 130lbs to my band rack pulls and my speed off the floor is way better so I am happy with what I'm doing.
Heavy pulls from the floor very soon bro!!

The seated press is aimed at moving some weight and keeping my triceps decent while not hurting my arm much, may move to reverse band shoulder press soon.
This a video of me doing them with a fat bar. The weight is 215lbs, and you can adjust the bar however you like. But since I train with 2 others and they are taller, I have to suffer...hahaha!!!!!!! IMO, they are alot harder then any other type of shoulder presses. You really have to keep your core super tight or you will just fall back. Let me know what you think!!!!!

    Thanks guys means a lot!!

I have trained the abs so much I think they were so tired they became theweak point while pulling and I have paid for it.

It was stupid to hit abs so often, I will back off a little.

Nice speed work Nick!!!!!! Your injury sounds similar to what happened to Brian Carroll back in Feburary. He seems to be doing fine now, so hopefully your injury isn't serious. When can you start getting some video up? Maybe myself and some others can help you out with you speed work on the squat.

    Thanks Tank!!
I will film when I'm 100% again, should be pretty soon I think (hoping 10 days at most but will have to see).
I have been getting spasms in the area but it has improved slighty pain wise, felt like it kinda popped and tore at the time.
Yeah your help on speed squats would be really really good!!

Nice DE day Nick. Did you find your speed picking up on the squats after 3 or 4 sets?

Bummer about the stomach pull. I tweaked something in my neck yesterday when I was blowing up my sons armbands to go swimming. How ghey is that, lol.
    Hope it isnt serious mate!!
