The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Holy f*** man....I saw some replys talking about you holding almost 1000 lbs. on your back, then I saw up there that you held 965!!!! That's nuts dude. I never did walkouts before, maybe I should start giving them a shot to mentally prepare me for heavier weights. Damn, I can't imagine what that much weight on my back would feel like though!! You're definately one strong ass mofo!

You ever think of getting back into fight training? You definately bring up some good points, and with your strength I think you'd be pretty lethal!

Hey Nick I hope that new stance does the trick. It takes a while to decide what's the best method. Strength alone isn't always the best way to decide either. Knock out 600 for me!

    Thanks bro!!

I gave the unrack holds some thought and decided that after your squats once or twice a month doing them with 20% more than your best squat would be good, any more weight or any more often will drain you and be counter productive.

As for the fight game, no I will not get back into it.
I love it and love a scrap but I chose powerlifting for a few reasons, I am naturally aggressive and I still get to let it out with powerlifting especially on speed work but when I was wrestling and boxing etc it took over my life.
For about 2 1/2 years (2002-2005) all I did was train during the day and work part time in the evening, was one of the best times of my life and has made me who I am today but I can not do it anymore.
I believe every boy/man should spend 1-3 years of their life with focus on learning to fight as it will make you a better person and also may save your ass.

    Thanks John!!

600 is a way off right now but I'll get it in time, this new form is so much smoother like one movement instead of two.

So keen to train right now it's not funny!!

I know you like to set big goals so I gave you something to shoot for. Seems to me the strength is there to do it with lots of practice. No doubt you'll get there! Nice quote as well. The fight game does take an extraordinary amount of time to stay on top.

Yep your right, lots of practice and 600 is very realistic.

It does indeed take a lot of time to stay on top, I am impressed you still keep it up!

    Ha!

You know of VB! Nah not keen of It, of the standard Aussie beers I don't mind Tooheys New and XXXX.

I was born in NZ so I'm partial to Steinlager and also Speights distinction ale, Lion Red is the main standard Kiwi beer.

    Prefer hard liquor though...

Yeah Castlemaine is pretty good. I think the first beer I ever had was a Castlemaine, lol.

Youre a Kiwi? Cool. I was born in Pretoria, South Africa. We come from two of the finest rugby nations. Ireland aint too shaby either of course, lol.

My cousin is just back from 14 months in NZ. She loved it. Must find out exactly where she was.

I will give walkouts a try like you suggest with the 20% more then the final set. I like that!!!

I hear what you're saying about the fight training....if it consumes your life, then there's no sense in doing it. For me, it consumes my weeknights (otherwise, I'd just be sitting on my ass and watching TV when I'm not lifting), but I'm also really into Jiu-jitsu. I wish I would have gotten into this stuff earlier in life, then maybe I'd be a purple belt by 30....oh well. I expect to be a black belt by 45 latest, which isn't too unreasonable. I like the quote. That's some inspirational s***!

I found when I was doing that sort of training I really loved the lifting side so it was an easy switch, still miss it I guess it is very hard for me to watch greco or freestyle with-out wanting to go train it lol.

    Ha ha beer O'clock...

I just brought stance in so toes are now 9" from plates each side and feet a little straighter at about 35 degrees (I have weak hips) I will slowly bring it out on heavy work but still go a little wider on speed days.
I can tell my hips are stronger from all the wide g.ms so thats a start.

Very happy I gave it a shot.

So pumped for tomorrows squat/deadlift day!
