The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Sumo and light lats pretty quick session that took jack out of me, CNS is feeling good again.

    Sumo off 4" blocks-
    225 x2
    315 x2
    405 x2
    Add briefs and loose belt
    495 x1
    545 x1
585 x1 PR, hard but not a max
    Speed type reps
    495 x1
Remembered I had camera in bag
495 x1 filmed this set only
495 x1 this was the only set I was happy with, remembered to look up and was very fast

    SLDL-
    135 x15

    Lat pulls med-
    110 x12 x4 sets nice and slow

Quick day, happy with the pulls but pissed I did not film the last set which I would have liked to see.

Sumo is the way to go for me, grip is a non issue due to all the band rack work conventional I did a few months back I just need to get my form perfected and work hard.

Your starting position isn't bad at all, neither is the speed of your pull. I'd try to open your hips up a bit more and watch the speed that your hips rise. Around 7 second mark, your torso angle is pretty steep which means you'll most likely have your hips completely up, knees extended and your torso folding like an accordion trying to stiff leg DL your max. Maybe working on Ultra Wide Pull Thrus without changing your template up will help a bit. It seems like you're a lot like me, obviously stronger pulling sumo, but just get caught up in leverage issues with 90-95%+ weights that make pulling sumo hit or miss at those weights versus just brute force and ignorancing a conventional weight to lockout.

I agree on the starting position analysis. The key is to spread your knees and get your hips as close as possible to the bar. That'll put you in the best possible starting position. You're definitely a sumo deadlifter. Don't be afraid to use conventional in training though. It'll help you too. Great work.

Great pulling Nick! I'd give some critiques, but I don't pull sumo and the others have a lot more experience than I do. The speed you have with 495 is awesome!

Excellent, thanks for taking the time to check it out!

I did see all the things you pointed out in the video and I will need to work hard at using tighter form, the last set I did was much better but I did not film it (head up, hips stayed down a little more) and the weight shot up like nothing so I look forward to practising.

I agree with everything you said and appreciate your help!!

Will post some more vids soon...

Thanks Garage lifter, ha ha yeah I guess they were speed pulls although I can do better.

Thanks Borracho, always glad off your words bro.

Thanks Gatorman, I love the speed work- good to test your speed with more than the normal 50-70% IMO.

Thanks Tank, feeling good bro body is in a much better state than last week.

Thanks John, yeah you were right its not too far now. Very happy so thanks for the encouragement.

Thanks Flynn, I do pride myself on speed- I think it is awesome to show people who think lifters are slow stuff like speed pulls with 400-500 etc.

Thanks Coke, always like your kind words bro.
