The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Tore a good chunk of skin off the left hand so Im going to piss on it every night for a few nights so it does not get infected.
If this was someone elses log I would assume they are joking but with you I am pretty sure youve already whizzed over you hand by now.

Bri, I do try to have follow a template (my own which is extremely flexible) but I have had some injuries which were a little worse than I let on and that has made it all very mixed up.
I have been doing what I can to work around them.

I like max effort work a lot but also like to do heavy sets of 2-5, I am always attempting to find the right balance of the main movements and the accessory movements (for me I do better when I focus on the main movements and pour my energy and focus into them, but I do vary the main movements eg: add bands etc).

I love speed work but Im pretty explosive naturally so can get "fast" pretty quick after a few weeks of 5s and no speed work for example which can slow me up somewhat.
I also believe if you use bands a lot for max effort work you will be fast anyway.

I am always trying to increase mental toughness which I would like to be an edge I have on others in the gym and in life, my Dad is not afraid of hard work and not afraid of people either.....I try to be the same.

Hope the clears it up a bit, I know how mixed up it must look but I always have direction with what Im doing and bottom line is I make sure the important lifts are increasing.
Nice! Well, no it doesn't exactly clear up exactly what your training method is, but that's cool because I most likely would be sticking to my own methods anyway. I was just interested. I do like the point you made about having an edge on people both in the gym and in life in general. That's a good point. Mental toughness is something that everyone should strive for as well as physical strength. Good attitude bro!

    Thanks guys!!

And yeah I am pissing on my hand each night, let it soak for 2 mins then wash it off.
I read about this first in a Wilbur Smith book as a kid............Birds of Prey.

John, I use that trick on athletes foot and it works WAY better than any powder/cream!

Maybe I'm biased b/c of what I do for a living but there's no justification for peeing on yourself after the age of 3

BTW. time to show us some gear-whored out training

My friend can not come help me this Saturday so no make shift monolift and no help out of the suit over briefs so..........
I did some walkout squats in the suit only.

    Free squat-
    135 x10
    225 x2
    315 x1
    Add overkill suit no briefs
    405 x2
    495 x2
    Add loose belt
    555 x2
    555 x2
    555 x2

    Calve raises-
    30/10/10 rest pause 10 sec

Hard to give a review of the suit as I have not done a free squat in a long long time, was like relearning the free squat just as much as learning the suit but it did go pretty well.

I was tired going into this and the walk-outs took a bit out of me and so I did not go as heavy as I would in a monolift.

I could not get belt tight at all (I get a lot out of a tight belt), today was pretty much sans belt.

All squats were a little high but not a mile high, I wanted to play it safe and not risk form breaking down as I an sick and tired of injuries!

Plenty of support on the eccentric, did not need much energy going down just push knees out and feel the pressure build on the way down.

I would say wearing briefs with good pop and having straps up this suit will be very good and feels safe (not too hard to push knees and not super restrictive).

It took me 15 mins of very hard work to get it off so unless I have people to help and a mono I will not use suit too often.

For now my focus is going to be on deadlifting and I will enter a meet in March or April 2011.

Any questions on the suit please ask, Im so tired I cant think straight and this may all be mumbo jumbo garbage ha ha......

Still some great work Nick. Nice to hear you set plans for a meet. I planned on competing Jan 29, but now with my back setback and my gear taking forever, I may be pushing it back to about the same time. Suit sounds pretty awesome.

Impressive return to free squatting. Those suits would frustrate the heck out of me I suspect. I appreciate well-made gear also. My lifting belt is hand-made by Bob's Belts and I have some sambo shoes I had shipped in from Russia several years back. Things aren't made like they used to be.

Wow, you're doing sumo alright... and damn strong sumo, 515x5?!? I'd give a kidney to be able to do that right now. Also impressive squats, looks like you've been making serious progress, nice work!

Thanks guys!! I am feeling ready for another round of 5 x3 deadlifts, hand feels ok and I feel pretty fresh- X-Tend is my friend.

    Lats and traps volume day.

    Med grip pulldowns-
    80 x6
    120 x6
    140 x6
    160 x6
    180 x6
    200 x6

    Wide grip pulldowns behind head-
    80 x10
    100 x10
    120 x10
    120 x10
    120 x10
    120 x10

    Shrugs dumbells-
80s x10 x12 sets (super setted with each pulldown set)

Back is feeling good, this work is somewhat therapeutic and seems to make me feel looser.

    Thanks Borracho!!

    Sumo off 4" blocks-
    135 x5
    225 x1
    315 x1
    415 x1
    Add briefs and belt
    520 x5
    520 x5
    520 x7 no problem

    SLDL deficit 4"-
    135 x6 for stretch

    Sumo deficit 4"-
    135 x6 for stretch

    Calve raises-
    1 x60

Sumo is moving along nicely, I have found a stance that helps my off the floor now so I can just train to get stronger and stop playing with different stances.

Got some Estrogen blockers/ test boosters for a good price (never tried them) so I will keep you posted today is day one of a 4 week cycle.

    Thanks everyone for your help!!
