The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

That's why there are always looking for new LBs. They always draft these hybrids that don't fit. Just like Chris Gocong and this Teo guy they just drafted, even Brandon Graham was expected to be picked up by a 3-4 team. I like Stewart Bradley and Ernie Sims but they don't have a true strongside LB, so they will end up putting another guy who was a DE in college there. The did get Alex Hall from the Browns but he doesn't really have any playing time.

We won our game on Saturday 17-14. Close game it came down to the final seconds, but a win is a win. Finished with 5 tackles, 1 sack, and a body slam. I ended up picking up a running back and slamming him on his head so that was fun. Practice tonight, squats tommorow, and there is a UFL tryout in town in 4 weeks. These tryouts kind of suck because of how many people there are but I have a couple things working for me. I have a friend that already plays on the team, and an agent thats knows half the staff. I still need to go to this open tryout to do my 40 times and that stuff and I "supposedly" will have a private workout soon after, maybe the next day. I say supposedly because anything can happen and although I have been running and stuff I haven't officially timed myself since my injury. I am not delusional thinking that I will run what I used to(consistant 4.67-4.69 at 240lbs.) I am looking to run in the low 4.8's and I have always had a great short shuttle time.

Holy **** thats some serious volume on the deads mate. No wonder you felt like barfing.

Wish you the best for the tryouts mate. Training for your football and hitting the gym hard the way you are has to brutal. Fair play to ya mate.

Went down to this Olympic lifting gym yesterday. Just wanted to check it out. I ended up doing a bunch of cleans, jerks, and squats. It was pretty cool though. It is actually the place where that beast of a kid Pat Mendes trains at. He is a ****in ox.

So we lost our third game of the season last night. We are now 2-3. We actually didn't play to bad, but they started thier first two drives with great field position and scored two touchdowns to start the game. On defense we made the adjustments we needed to and ended up killing them the rest of the game. To bad I ca't say the same about our offense. We scored one touchdown off of a tipped pass. The play calling and execution was terrible. As far as how I played , I had my best game of the season and it wen to waste. I finished with 12 tackles, 6 tackles for a loss, 3 sacks, and 1 forced fumble. My ankle is feeling stronger every week, if I had to guess I would say it is at 70%.

    Back Raises

I might switch to box squats for a little just because I don't get as sore while working up to heavier weights. I have been trying to balance football and lifting, it is working ok but it can be better. One of the big things when lifting and playing a sport is programing your training correctly. If it was a perfect world I would lift on the same days as my practices and use rest days for actual REST days. Currently work will not allow that to happen and my lifts are suffering a little.

    5/6 Bench

    Bench Press
    135x15
    185x12
    225x5
    255x5
    285x3

    Floor Press
    225x5
    245x5
    265x5

    DB Shrugs
    80x15
    80x15
    80x15 (did these very slowly)

    Close Grip Cable Rows
    180x15
    260x15
    300(stack)x12

    Hammer Strength Angled Row
    2pps x15
    3pps x12
3pps x12,8,5,3 (didn't let go of the handles just took acouple deep breaths and got as many as I could)

    Hammer Curls
    55x10
    55x10
55x10 (very strict on all reps)

    Tricep Pushdowns
    stack x25
    stack x20
    stack x20

Kept it kind of light on bench and threw in floor press to see how they felt since I have not done them in a while. The floor presses felt like crap, I used to be able to use the same weights as on bench. Did a couple of movements just to get some blood in the muscles, but kept everything easy.

We won our game last night and we are now 3-3 for the season. The final score was 7-6 which is pathetic. Once again we shot oursleves in the foot, having been in scoring position twice and penalties pushing us back and we had a field goal blocked. On defense we played very well but we gave up an 80 yard TD pass. So far this season i would say 75% of the touchdowns we give up are big plays by poor tackling or missed assignments. It is definately something that needs to be fixed by the playoffs. As for me I finished with 6 tackles (all for a loss), 2 sacks, 1 forced fumble, and 1 fumble recovery. I also had 2 carries for 9 yards, I played fullback and tight end since we were short on people. All in all we are making progress from week to week.
