The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

It’s no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    barx8
    95x5
135x5 real grinder so i lowered the weight

Very tired today. Drinking a sugar-free amp as Im typing this and I have a ton of work to do. Sent in my entry form for Nov 6th today and getting a hotel room for the night (its in Atlantic City, about 3hrs away). I think my attempts will be about:

    345-380-415 (I can go for a 4th)
    185-220-go by feel
    325-365-go by feel

Sets me up for 1000 total with the 3rd squat and 2nd bench and dead. I know I have more than 1000 in me though, so well see. Weight is about 156 (WNPF scale is 4.5lbs heavier than my home scale, and Im 151.5 at home). There is a sauna at the hotel so Ill probably have to sweat out 2.5-3lbs and the rest should be gone from the fast.

Also, if anyone lives close to AC or is coming to watch, I could really use someone to wrap my knees. My dad is going to be there but he cant wrap them tight as I prefer with his arthritis.

    Meet Results

So I weighed in Friday and didn't have to hit the sauna (23hr fast). Weighed in at 147.5. After that I went to the buffet and ate a ton of food to put it all back on.

Squats went 340-380-miss 400. This was probably for a few reasons...I had trouble getting tight, lost my arch unracking it, and didn't have enough time to warm-up with as many sets as I usually do.

Btw, if anyone has any form comments for any of the videos please dont hesitate.

    340- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZryDAUdV35I
    380- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_gKFMMYztY
    400- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pO0PScqV3tE

Bench warmups went well and fast. Opener went up pretty fast too so I was confident for 220. I stalled half way up and took it again for the third...didn't get it off my chest the 2nd time. I need to focus on keeping lats tighter, forcing my heels down on the descent, and pushing legs harder on the way up.

    190- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwGltevoBqc
    220- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_IQgkMNVYv4

Dead warm-ups were a bit slow. 330 went up a bit harder than it should have. 365 came a few inches off the floor and that was it. I tried to pull it semi-sumo for a 3rd and just took the flex out of the bar. Just had trouble staying tight here too.

    330- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpR075neqeE
    365- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rHgVxf2p-Rg

So I didn't PR in any lift...but I learned some things. Definitely start warming up for the squat earlier, make sure the rack height is correct, and work on form for everything still.

Again, if anyone has any suggestions on form or exercises that would help please feel free.

    Thanks bro

Did light upper body stuff monday but nothing worth mentioning.

Back to normal today. Started to record times and RPEs. I will be be getting the RTS manual for Christmas and looking at it them, but Ive decided to get a head start and start logging these things now.

ME Lower (~3-4 min rest for top sets)
    Sumo DL
    2x135x5
    2x160x4
    2x195x2
    230x1
    270x1
    @90%-310x1 8
    @95%-330x1 9
    @100%-345x1 9.5
355xmiss a few inches off the floor
    43 minutes in total

    Sumo Stiffs (2:30 rest)
    135x4
    185x3
    225x5 9
    225x5 9
    15 minutes in total

Leg Press (Close Stance) I am just counting plate weight
    90x8
    180x12 8.5
    180x12 9
    8 minutes in total

I know this may not seem like a lot of weight for these leg presses, but they are very deep. On a few reps I hit the stop all the way at the bottom (to the point where the machine cant go any deeper).

    Decline Abs (2min rest)
    25x8
    25x8
    BWx8
    BWx8
    BWx8
    15 minutes

Maybe my core was just shot or because it was on the highest decline (usually I just use it where ever it is), but these were pretty tough.

    Hips (60 sec rest)
    Mini Bandx12
    Mini Bandx12

Total Time Spent in the gym (From warm-ups, excluding form rolling, to finish): 1hr 54 min

This seems like a really long time...maybe it is just because I do a lot of warm-up sets. Ill try to move through warm-ups quicker and see if this helps.

Also, Im going to be doing extra workouts on my off days. These will be comprised of ~3 exercises for 2-3 sets of 20-50 reps. This is in addition to the cardio I am currently doing (30 min LISS after upper body days, 20 min HIIT on an elliptical after lower body days). One will be done in the morning and the other in the afternoon The reason for this is two-fold:

    1. I am looking to increase my work capacity so I can train 4 days a week.
    2. I am increasing the volume of my routine slightly, and the extra workouts should help with recovery.

Diet wise things have changed a bit too. 3150cals on training days and 3000cal on offdays, adding an extra carb meal on off days. Im still playing around with the macros a bit, but it should come out to ~310-325g of protein each day, and about 60carbs less on off days. Previously I was consuming about 150 cals less on training days and 400cal less in addition to 30-40g less carbs on off days. This is a lean mass diet for me and is to work on moving up into the 165 class.

Future competition plans are for February 26th, still in the WNPF. Hoping to ATLEAST get 1000 total this time. I will most likely be competing @ 148 still...I didnt even have to use the sauna to make weight last time. I will weight myself this weekend to see where I am at, but its probably around 155 currently.

I will very likely be continuing to train westside until the date above. ME exercises will be sumo dl x1, high bar beltless squat x3, paused squat x2, and paused cg x3, dead bench x1, and floor press x2. Eventually its quite possible I will be doing something RTS/Block Periodization based, but I need to learn A LOT more about that before I feel comfortable with it.
