The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

It’s no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    ME Bench

    Warm-up

Paused CG (rest about 2min for top sets)
    2xbarx12
    2x75x5
    2x105x3
    135x3
    160x2
    185x3 10 (32min total)

Need to move a bit faster through this. I lost my bar path bad at the top set but was able to get it still.

    Wide Grip (1:30-2min rest)
    95x6
    120x4
    155x6 8
    155x6 9.5
    115x12 9 (18 min total)

    DB Row (60-90sec rest)
    25x10
    55x8
    85x8 8
    85x6 8
    85x6 8 (10 min total)

Should have done triceps before these but forgot. Will switch it up next time.

Neutral Grip DB Extension (1 min rest)
    20x8 9
    20x6 10
    15x8 10 (5min)

These are weird...like the first 5-6 reps feel fast and easy then all of a sudden my triceps have no strength left. Not sure if this means Im fast twitch dominant in my triceps or that my tricep endurance is just bad.

    Side Raise/Hammer Curl (1min rest)
    15x12/25x8 7.5/8.5
    15x12/25x8 8/9
    15x12/25x4 9/10 (6min)

Same thing that happens with my triceps happens with my arms...very weird.

    ER/IR
    10x14/16 7
10x14/16 7 (4min because some guy had to use the pull-up bar)

Took 1hr 44min in total including warm-ups before lifting, excluding foam rolling. Looking over the session, I have to make less time and move faster on the first 2 movements. The shorter rest periods definitely have somewhat of an effect on the weight I use. Ill keep this in mind for the other days when selecting weight choices.

    Definitely an ego check today.

Cybex Hip Machine (60 sec rest)
    25x20/20 7/7
    25x30/30 7/7 (3min)

Try to go a bit heavier on the hip machine (40lbs and 55lbs) but it felt really really weird in my groin so I went light.

Weights felt fast for speed benching today. Im working on touching a bit higher and I think it will help with strength off the chest. DB benching was good and definitely something to improve on. Lat Pulldowns felt great as well. Uprights rows feel weird on my shoulders; it's likely Ill switch them out soon.

Right pec feels a bit weird. Might have to ice it tomorrow depending on how things go.

    Today

    ME Lower (done at home)

High Squat (Beltless, shoulder width stance)
    2xbarx12
    2x105x5
    135x4
    175x3
    205x2
    240x1
    275x3 9 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OuTcm8_IAeM
    (28min)

Had another rep or 2 in me. Ill do 285 next time this comes around

    Sumo Stiffs (90 sec rest)
    135x6
    185x4
    225x5 8
    225x5 8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nolLT4mgad8

I like how these feel and will definitely be using them and progressing on them for while.

Since I was home today I didnt have access to a leg press....I tried to do step-ups and split squats but they just felt to weird. So I did:

    Front Squat
    115x12 8

    Decline Sit-up (60 sec rest)
    bwx10 7
    bwx10 7
    bwx10 7.5
    bwx12 7.5
    bwx15 8
    (8min)

These are easier at home since the decline isn't as steep.

    Hips w/ Mini
    1 set of 12 4ways

    ER/IR
    1 set of 10/12

12 min warm-up, 1hr 25min lifting. Would have been shorter if I didnt spend time trying to get the step-ups and split squats right.

    235x2
    265x2
    295x2 9
    320x2 (5lb PR) 10

A real grinder on this one. I planned to do 325 but that might have been just too much. 295 felt heavy too.

    Sumo Stiffs (90sec rest)
    135x6
    185x5
    230x5 8
    230x5 8

    ME Bench

Reverse Band Bench (trying to figure out set-up)
    2xbarx12
    2x95x5
    135x3
    put minis on pins 185x2
put minis on top of rack 185x2
This didn't feel like it was doing very much. Also, I couldnt set it up in a way that it wasnt pulling me back. And my regular mini bands are old and stretched (Im getting new ones for christmas). So I lowered the pins and just used my short minis.
    185x2
    205x2
    225x2
    245x2 9.5

It was cool to have this weight in my hands. This movement should definitely help....it probably gives me ~35lbs or so total. So about 15% of my max.

    Wide Grips (90 sec rest)
    95x8
    125x6
    160x6 8
    160x6 8
    120x15 8.5

Neutral Grip DB Ext (60 sec rest)
    20x10 7.5
    20x10 8
    20x10 8.5

    DB Row (90 sec rest)
    35x8
    50x8
    65x12 7.5
    65x12 7.5
    65x12 8

These feel light and its tough to tell how many reps I have left since its easy to grind reps out with this movement and cheat a bit.

    Side Laterals/Hammer Curl (60sec)
    15x12/10x12 8/7
    15x12/10x12 8.5/7.5
    15x12/10x12 9.5/8.5

    ER/IR
    2 sets of 14/16

I got caught with chalk today. Apparently the cleaning crew doesn't like cleaning chalk. Ill have to be neater from now on.

    AM Extra Workout
    DB Bench - 3 sets of 30 w/ 10lb DBs
    Rope Pushdown - 3 sets of 40 w/ 20lbs
    Seated V-Grip Row - 3 sets of 25 w/ 30lbs
    BW Squats - 3 sets of 20
    Back/Ab Machine - 3 sets of 25 each way w/ 25lbs

    PM- 22 min LISS

    DE Squat (done at home)

If I dont consciously keep my upper back tight on box squats it comes loose and makes things much harder and develops a bad habit. Something to consciously focus on.

    GMs (Conv DL stance)
    95x8
    115x8
    145x8 7
    145x8 7
    145x11 8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0IzcikN-wjY

    Decline Sit-up
    25x10 - 5 sets, ended with an 8 RPE

    Hips
2 sets with mini for 14

    ER/IR 1 set

One more DE Bench day and Im done for this cycle. Then Ill move to training 4 days a week and see how that goes. My conditioning definitely got better this cycle as well. On one my deload days this week, instead of lifting, Im going to see how fast I can run a mile just for fun. Having done that in literally 7 years.
