Well, Im driving from Dallas to DC and in the theme of that I was wondering how you guys maintained a diet while on the road?
I brought a bag of this in the car:
Peanut Butter (accompained only by a spoon )
Nature Valley Granola Bars
Bag of Almonds and Pecans
Bag of raisins and craisins
and yesterday I had 3 grilled chicken sandwiches from Wendy's...mmmm
So what do you do when constrained in the ways a road trip contrains diet?

I just make the best choice possible. I had to do a small trip yesterday so I took a tuna sandwich on wheat, bag of almonds, apple, nitrean, gallon of water, then once I got hungry I stopped at sheets and got a chicken wrap and milk. It is really something that most people have no clue how to even pick a decent "fast food" meal. On the other hand you have a ton of knowledge so I'm sure you will be good with that.
Beef jerky, almonds, protein powders (just add the water whenever so it doesnt go bad), and a double meat sandwich/salad from somewhere are always my choices.

Depends. Sometimes I'll bring a cooler full of pre-cooked chicken breasts, cottage cheese, maybe make salads and put them in containers. If not, I usually do pretty much what you did but try to hit Subways when I need to stop for something more substantial.

I usually take almonds, bananas, apples, protein/granola bars, water, and maybe some beef jerky. For more filling meals I usually stop for a McDonalds classic grilled chicken sandwich or two. The bread on their chicken sandwich is whole grain if I remember.

I travel for a living. Its really hard to eat clean. I can only handle so many PB&J, cold cans of soup, ect. Other issues include keeping things cold for 4 days and packing enough clothes and food in a carry on bag...ugh
Shakes and bars are a must. Some hotels have hard boiled eggs and milk for breakfast
Nice choices guys! We are staying at a friends house and I brought a whole other bag/cooler of good stuff for the stay in DC... all the normal stuff... tuna, cottage cheese, Nitrean and I just stocked the host's fridge with a couple gallons of milk.
Does anyone fudge it and throw care to the wind when necessary? I grabbed a spicy chicken sandwich from Wendy's today and it was pretty damn tasty. I havent had a piece of fried food in a very long time and it was a fantastic treat. I paid for it later in the bathroom though. I didnt think it would affect me like that but it effed me up!

I have a copy of "eat this not that" in my car for just such purposes.
im "on the road" every day also. Its a real pain in the ass driving around past all the great food places (especially in philadelphia) to get pizza, cheese steaks etc... im glad i found this thread im going to start bringing some of the things you guys mentioned with me from now on.
Well...its certainly a lot less fun when you are cutting!
I cook bulk chicken breasts every week and keep them in rubbermaid containers. Ill also bring almonds, protein bars, string cheese, apples, jerky, etc.
I tend to shy away from trail mix type stuff as the calories get away from me way too fast. One of the things we've got in our little "snack box" in the planes is those "sweet and salty" packages of trail mix. Little buggers are awesome, but pack a good 350cals a shot and go down like water!
Occasionally depending on whats at the airport, subway (6in, double meat!) will do...otherwise we opt to leave the airport and usually find our way to a Panera or the like. There are some AWESOME sandwich shops scattered around this country! Fortunately for us we eat on the company card which has no limit, so the occasional cut of salmon, mahi, or steak etc is snuck in when we have the time to actually sit down to something.
