The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    Unintentional GPP:
Had one of my neighbors 100 year old oaks trimmed up so that if the branches fall I won't lose my house.

The tree trimmers left some of the branches in my yard for fire wood. So I've unloaded about 2 cords of wood, about 20 pieces of which weigh in the 40lb to 50lb range.

    Good Times!!

Good job on the deload, Matt. I remember a similar incident with a tree at my parent's house. It just fell and fortunately did not land on our house. We had to go pick up a lot of the extra branches and stuff, though.

Nice deload work Matt, especially considering the temp here in MO and the fact that you pulled in jeans and mittens. lol That is dedication.

Thanks Jesse. By the time I finished up I had a stack about 5 ft tall x 2 ft thick x 10 ft long.

I figured it wasn't worth the effort to change clothes and the bars were too damn cold!

Thanks guys, attempted some neck work with bands yesterday but didn't really like it. The neck harness should be here tomorrow

A neck harness should be fun. I can just picture you in your office with your neck harness all strapped on, bands tied to the desk, dunmbbells rolling accross the floor...

    Yes it is!

    Day 1 of this Cycle

    Bench Press
    135 x 5
    135 x 5
    135 x 17 (we'll call this a rep PR )
All sets felt very good. May have been able to get 20 if I'd really pushed it. Very happy with this b/c its the first time doing any ME pressing work without elbow sleeves.

BB Curls in the squat rack
    55 x 10
    55 x 10
Super easy, basically resting up for deadlift

    (Semi-) Sumo Deadlift
    225 x 15 (no belt)
These felt very good. No hip pain and strong throughout. Everything pretty much gave out at the same time. For my setup I basically went just a bit more than shoulder width. This lets me pulls with my arms between my legs, which I very much like, and keeps the hips in a happy place.

    Neck Harness
    10 x 15 x 2 sets (super easy)

    Good start to the cycle.

Nice work Matt! Looks like you're doing JP's linear progression? I must have missed where you decided on that. I am back on it starting today myself!

17 reps, sheesh. Nice work! Liking those modified sumo pulls without the belt too. I seem to remember John Inzer pulling 780 with that stance and a few other guys hit some big numbers that way, may just pan out really well for you.

I decided to stop debating it and just do it I really like the set-up and exercise selection. Besides, Johnny's good people and it never hurts to listen to good people

I think so to. Strength was never an issue, the reps all went up really quickly. Started to really feel it in my grip and hamstrings.

I'm working on my bench setup some. Trying to stay really tight and push into the bench with my upper back. Seems to be helping.
