I've picked my first show (just need to talk the wife into it). It's 2 days after my 35th birthday

    This is it:
    http://nastrongman.com/central11.pdf

The events for 231 and under novice are:
Log Clean and Press - 190lb
Axle Deadlift - 385lb (no straps and 2in axle)
    Tire Flip
Keg Carry and Farmer's Walk Medley
    Stones

My focus for the next 10 weeks will be:
    better form on cleans
better form on push presses and jerk
    pulling conventional deadlift
    and the events of course

Also switching my programming to focus more on prep for the show. This is the article I'm using to get me started:
    http://articles.elitefts.com/article...l-press-squat/

Tomorrow I'll be doing conditioning and pressing (keg and bar) in Garage and try to get an idea of how far I need to go on the clean/jerk and press

    I think so to.

I seem to have a lot more focus when I have a specific goal and timeline. Thanks for the support

That second one looks much better mate. Have you got an axle? Try getting hold of a building scaffold bar mate that will do the job they are completely different to clean than a bar. Cheap to buy.

Events on that second one look good...

As I typed this I remembered your gonna do the events trainIng at tut strongman place so maybe you dont need the axle...

Can't wait to see some vids man this is gonna be cool. Welcome to strongman.

I can't wait to see your training for this Matt! Even though you'll be going to a place for strongman training, I'd suggest making your own axle. I have the hollow one and it is plenty strong, but for about $70-90 you can make a solid axle bar that will take whatever you throw at it. Mine ran me about $30, which made an axle, and 2 fat bar DB handles. Now you've got me wanting to go down and lift haha.

thanks guys, trying to decide what to buy. At this point probably going to buy a 12in log actually. I'm going to look into making one myself, which shouldn't be too long out either.

Short session tonight. Crappy sleep for the last few days and busy as hell. Still got in some good work.

    Full Keg
got it up to my chest x 3 reps
    That ****er is HEAVY

    Power Cleans
    a few

    Push Presses
    115 x 2
    115 x 1
    145 x 1
    165 x 1 pretty easy (technically a PR, since I haven't done these in a long time)
    185 x 0
missed it just over my head. Those extra 20lbs made a huge difference. Really need to learn how to push press and push jerk better.

    Keg Press
    3/4 full x 1 rep

    All done.

Awesome work Matt! That's some solid push pressing and great job with the keg press! I can't imagine how difficult it would be to press it with the water sloshing around.

So have you decided on a routine yet? I've been reading a lot of strongman stuff and I'll be making a few adjustments here and there.

Will start Monday, this was just a get out there and do something session. Also needed to get an idea where I was with the push press since one of the events is the log press with 190lb.

    Looks good,

I would go for a metal log if you can, easier to strore it and it wont get ruined by the damp of your shed.

Easier to put extra weight on too.
