    Thanks guys.

The wifey is getting really close to her due date. We just had the final ultrasound and the kiddo is huge. So I'm thinking of going to a 2 day a week program sooner rather than later, since I'm fairly certain I'm not going to be getting much rest for the remainder of the year.

Good stuff with the pull throughs. You definitely get some odd looks when you do them in a commercial gym.

I remember trying a few reps on the cable machine and couldn't get past trying to just get set up

Anytime now. This week has been really hectic. A lot of little things have kept me from lifting, nothing incredibly earth shaking but still it's been irritating.

On a side note all of my joints have been aching and I'm trying to figure out the best way to handle that. The elbow sleeves seem to be working really well as long as I wear them for everything.

Knee wraps are OK but a huge pain in the ass. I've got a pair of Inzer XT's on the way, since ATP's out of stock at the moment and I've outgrown my EFS sleeves.

Last thing is my hips. Pulling my deadlift stance and squat stance in has helped but I'm not very happy with the loss of strength and now my lower back is having a hard time with the extra strain of pulling conventional.

Anyway, enough whining. Now for a question: suggestions on power pants, groove briefs, briefs, whatever for my hips? I'd like something that I can wear somewhat comfortably and that will help with both squats and deadlifts.

Thinking about some of the Titan stuff but not sure what to get or what size?

I'm sure you have had your hands full between work and a new addition on the way. Congratulations on that! I do a variety of stretches for the hips that help. I'm not as well-versed on briefs and whatnot as others on here may be. Personally, I used to just use the tight Under Armour sliding pants when my hips weren't cooperating. They worked well.

Nick (Aus bencher journal) swears by Boss briefs (I think). You can look in on his journal or pm him. I don't think he'd mind at all.

Just getting old I've had random joint issues for a while and it's getting annoying every time I adjust a lift to accommodate something and some new issue pops up.

Congrats mate, I didnt know you and your wife were expecting!

I have worn briefs once so I have no business commenting on them. Neoprene compression shorts (IP, Diamond, McDavid, Canterbury all do a range of the the 2-3mm ones) are great for keeping your hips warm and they do add significant support. I got the IP ones and they are great. I got the Titan Superior Briefs and they are also great but for completely different reasons. They are neither comfy or easy to get on.

Going back to 5/3/1. I really need the flexibility right now and this way I can do anywhere from 2 to 4 days a week and still stay with the same program. My only change from the program as written is that I'll be doing it in the following order: 3/5/1 and only going for rep records on the 3's and 1's week.

    OH Press
    85 x 3
    95 x 3
    105 x 10 (RPE-9) est. max 140
Considered I have done exactly 1 working set of OH Press in the last 2 months I'm pretty happy with this Only 1 rep off from my all time best with this weight.

    Chins
    bw x 4 (RPE-8)
    bw x 4 (RPE-8)
    bw x 4 (RPE-9)

    Dips
    bw x 4 (RPE-8)
    bw x 4 (RPE-8)
    bw x 4 (RPE-8)

    Band Pull Aparts
blue bands wrapped around hand once x 20
blue bands wrapped around hand once x 20

    Band Face Pulls
red band x 30 (lost count and ended up doing 10 extra reps)
    red band x 20

    Band Triceps Pressdown
    Red band x 26
Did these to (somewhat) near failure. Mainly just to get some blood in the triceps and elbows

Felt really good to get back out in the Garage and do something. Decided to get some Power Pants, should have them and my XTs sometime after my next squat workout

Nice pressing. Good luck with the 5/3/1, and I completely agree you can't beat the flexibilty of it.

Why 3/5/1 layout and rep records for only the 3s and 5/3/1 week?

I like the way you set it up. Trust me, you'll be needing extra recovery when the baby is keeping you up all night

Thanks Nick. Seems like I always fall back on this program when things get a little hectic. The planned progression and flexibility for accessory work really helps.

I've seen this recommended a few times to help to manage recovery better. Going for rep records every week works for me for about 2 cycles and then I'm usually spent. I have a hard time not pushing to hard so building in the limits every other week will keep from having to rely on my judgement The reason for the 5 week being the middle is because it is higher volume (by definition) than the others. You can almost think of it has an extended Texas Method schedule with the 5's week being a (semi-)recovery week. I hope that made sense.

Definitely, we'll see how the first few weeks go when my wife's parent's and then mine are here I tell them I'm going out to the Garage to workout by myself Hopefully I can just sneak out there during the day while they think I'm working

Great work Matt! I think the flexibility of 5/3/1 will really help when the baby comes. Let us know how the power pants work out.

Just got an email from House of Pain and the XT's are on the way so I'll have them for my next session. I'll be ordering the PowerPants next week probably.

Nice work! One thing you might want to try is doing the chins in between your Military press sets. Gains some efficiancy which for a new dad is huge (in the same boat since February )

Also, your estimated 1rm of 126, is that using Wendler's calculator? Because if so it is actually 140.

    ((weight*reps)*.0333)+weight

    105*10 = 1050
    1050*.0333 = 34.965 (just say 35)
    105+35 = 140

Paul, I space the chins out through out the workout so I usually have several minutes rest. Good catch BTW on the OH Press. I wrote it down wrong in my spreadsheet (I put 95 x 10 instead of 105).

Which is only 1 rep off from my all time best w/ 105 and also only 4lb off from my all-time best estimated max.

So apparently there's a lot of carryover from other lifts to OH Press

Definitely need to keep it short and to the point. My other daughter is 3 and a half and doesn't like Daddy to be playing in the Garage by himself too long.

Good lifting and good luck with the 3/5/1! I tried out briefs a couple times back when I thought I might want to get into geared lifting. I tried a couple pairs of Titan briefs and they did not fit well at all in the legs, plus they felt like a potato sack lol. I have a pair of Metal Viking briefs that I obviously don't use very often at all, lol. I like them, though. They are comfortable material compared to the Titan ones I used and were easier to use. The only thing I can say is to make sure you have them all the way up, lol. I learned this the hard way. I thought I had them completely on and when I went to squat I couldn't push my knees out at all and I basically did a huge good morning with a medium weight and almost messed up my back lol. They are a little tricky. That being said, you do feel a lot more secure in them than going raw. I guess that's the hope, though, lol. I see you got the Power Pants. I hope that they work well for you. Also, you may have to loosen your belt a bit to accommodate the extra material around your waist. Other than that, I don't know much!

Good to see you back at it. Lifting when you can will help you keep your sanity. Getting 10 reps out of the gate is big time!

I emailed Rick at House of Pain to add them to my XTs and he said that the XTs went out that morning so I've held off on the Powerpants for now. Still trying to get a little more feedback on what would be best. Metal gear is too expensive for an experiment but there is some Titan stuff I was considering. Which one did you use?

Thanks John. When I was planning it I was shooting for 6+ so pretty happy about how it turned out.
