The two failed attempts took a lot out of me I think I'm good for 405x7-10 I also need to work on staying upright while pulling sumo.

Well the coan cycle has ran its toll. I tried to set it up with west side but its just not working out. I'm going to go back to a west side template for Squat/Dead. I'm not really bummed about this cause I have a lot more to gain and I will gain well using westside methods. And it means I get to squat 500 next week!

Too bad about the fail. But I don't understand what you're doing with your warmups. You're jumping from 395 to 470?? You need to prime your body with heavier loads before going to 470. You'll actually be stronger for the 470 if you throw in 1 or 2 sets in the 90% before attempting 470. I look forward to you sticking with Westside and seeing that 500 squat.

I prefer bigger jumps on the DL. Some people jump entire plates 225x1 315x1 405x1 495x1 etc...

I'm looking forward to a strictly westside template as well.

sucks about the miss but those 405 pulls looked pretty fast. The guy i train with is a really good sumo puller and he gave me some tips that i think might benefit you as well. If you are flexible enough try and get your feet as far out as possible. If you grip is stong enough put two fingers into the smooth on each hand and also point your feet out a little more and make sure you push your knees out to get the bar as close as possible and try to spread the floor with your feet. These tweaks added alo of weigh to my sumo and the guy who gave me this tips can pull like 750 @ 220.

Its the Largest golds gym In utah. Its okish. Only has one power rack but at least it has a platform. There's a powerlifting gym down the street from me. Unfortunately their hours of operation are terrible and don't work with my schedule.

too bad about the attempt. very solid lifting

im no expert.. but it appears that you tried to jerk 470 off the floor rather than break it with your legs...... i do this sometimes and it saps the hell out of me, while i realize you dead a good bit more than me. i have to consciously remember to break with my legs rather than with my back.

Great observation. However, maybe it looks jerky because it's a failed attempt? The 405x6 looks like I fired my legs properly. What do you think?

Yeah, I noticed you jerk the bar when you pull, too. The reason I didn't mention anything is because I know people that do this too but they can't break the habit and I haven't seen them injure themselves from it... yet. You jerk the 405x6, too. You know how I can tell? Your hair, lol. If you didn't jerk the bar, your hair wouldn't fly around everywhere like that. Why did you drop the 470?? Was it a grip issue? That thing was moving until you dropped it!

I'm aware people do jump plates, but only for their warmups. If 495 was 100%, their last warmup wouldn't be 405. Take a look at some of the pros logs in here and see how they work up to maximal loads. I'm suggesting this because it's been proven a set or two in the 90% range makes you stronger for your heaviest attempts.

Thanks for the info guys. It crazy how much recording your lifts can help you. I'll get a vid when I go heavy again in two weeks. Also keith I am aware of my big jumps. I have tried warming up multiple times with 90% before and it was not beneficial to me. Here's a deadlift workout from cmanuel's journal

    135x5
    225x3
    315x2
    405x1
    500x4

However, I am stronger since so maybe another warm up sets will benefit me now just something I'll have to play around with.

Ya the 470 did get moving. The second attempt which I didn't get a vid of I was so so close to getting it. Not a grip issue at all I just know it would have been a fail or a nasty rep that wouldn't be smart to bang out. I'm confident I'm good for 460.
