The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Its no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Lmao I always love your posts Steve. Thanks for the support.

Has anyone noticed I touch low for a raw bencher? I know justin/Flynn has said something before and my training partner commented on it too lol. Got me thinking of what I could do in a shirt.....

This is the best pic I could find for where I touch.

or this video gives a better idea of where I touch. Its a failed attempt but has the best angle. Not failed cause I touched too low just a heavy weight.

Does that seem low or normal?

Funny you said that about benching low... when I watched your 225 speed set I thought to myself "he benches like he's in a shirt".. the head comes up and the bar touches low. I don't think it's overly low or anything, just caught my eye. What does it feel like when you touch around the sternum compared to the lower position?

I am definitely stronger when I touch low like I do. It also feels more natural to me. I've tried touching higher to see how it felt and I don't like it My shoulders are also very happy with where I touch.

I think it was a vid you put up of a 300 bench. I watched it and the first thing I thought was you were grooving like you had a shirt on. I then asked you more recently if you were considering getting into equipped lifting. Benching like that and pulingl sumo, youre half way there. Shirts and suits are calling you, man. You just dont realise it

    Hey Tom, how's things?

    What PIERCEY said

I tend to bench pretty low too. When I joined the private gym they encouraged me to use a narrower grip, elbows in and to take it down lower and even though I was set back in the short term I was able to build strength more quickly using that type of form.

    Hows the biz?

Kind of freaking out about my deadlift. Suggestion for sumo work off the floor? I'm thinking about conventional defecits on speed day.

    Briefs!......

Speedpulls and deficits will be your best attack. Try working both stances too, which is what you mentioned really.

Zerchers are sweet aren't they? Love that movement. Off the top of my head, things that have helped my sumo pull the most - deficit sumo deadlift, sumo straight-leg deadlifts and conventional pulls also seem to help my sumo. Also like glute/ham raises and pull throughs a lot for assistance. The deadlift is a tricky bastard, it's like a damn puzzle that keeps changing and I always feel like I am trying to find a different missing piece every cycle.

Haha, good point brother!!! I feel the same way and it seems like I have to work extra hard to increase my deadlift....which sucks btw.

Yeah you touch almost exactly where I do as well. Your shoulders will thank you the heavier the weight gets for going fairly low.

What do you think the tennis elbow is from? I've been having some joint pain lately as well. So annoying because it never goes away very fast.

Its from playing 3 hours of racquetball on top of powerlifting. I'm going to have to tone the R ball down till my elbows heal up. Skipped playing yesterday it sucked but I gotta be smart.

With how wide you go i wonder about how low your go. To me if I go that low I'd rather have a closer grip, it just seems like such an awkward position. I can say that I haven't had a great deal of experience with Flat BB lately, but the wide grip with a low pause feels odd to me.

If you are comfortable with what you do then keep running with it. If you were to change anything (for what reason I don't know) I'd look to maybe bring the grip in, but I don't think you need any changes.

I don't grip to wide. Middle finger on the rings. I see your point though. I used to do index on the rings. Now I do middle on the rings It feels very good and this is naturally what my body like so it probably fits my anthropometry.
