The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Thanks man. Yeah sort of, the templates almost exactly the same except on the week of 3's I do 3 sets at the top percent so 3 sets at 90% and the 5/3/1 week I do the same but with singles (3 sets at 95%). Usually I try to get a couple more reps on my last set of the day but just couldn't be bothered, I'm not a huge fan of benching, I find its well unpredictable for me, some days I'll push really well, others not. The reason I've put the extra volume in is because my bench is falling down a slippery slope at the minute and looking back through my old workout books it seemed to be at its best with more volume. I'm planning on sticking close grip benching back into my routine too sometime soon, not too long ago my close grip was way better than my normal bench is now so something's not working..

Well I plan to. It will be 2011 though. I didnt compete to get a qualifying total for 2010.

    10/02/10 - Squats

    Squats

    150kg x 3
    172.5kg x 3
    195kg x 3/3/5 (430lbs)

    Bottom Up Squats 120kg x 5, 140kg x 5, 160kg x 5
    Step Ups 80kg x 12/12/12 (6 each leg)
    GMs 80kg x 10/10/10
    Facepulls x A Bunch

Really pleased with today, the first 2 sets at 195 felt gash but the last was pretty plain sailing. On top of this I've been pretty ill for the past 2 days, got a bad cough and man flu No hills again which was probably a bad idea seeing as I demolished an entire bag of egg noodles and 2 chicken breasts when I got back, should most likely get back on it..

Thanks mate. Yeah thats the rough idea of them, wasn't aware of much more stuff to do that'll carry over well to a raw squat so thought I'd give them a go..

I've seen a few people recommended paused at the bottom. I think that Mike Tuscherer is a fan

    11/02/10 - Military Press

    70kg x 3
    80kg x 3
    90kg x 3/3/5 (198lbs)

    CGBP 120kg x 5, 130kg x 5/5/5 (All last reps paused)
    D/B Rows 60kg x 10, 70kg x 8/8 (No Straps)
    S/S D/B Lat Raises 22kg x 10/10/12 with D/B French press 22kg x 12/12/12
    Paused Rope Push Downs Setting 10 x 10, 12 x 8/10/10
    Plate Raises 25kg x 15/15

All felt a bit crap today, I'm still ill which is probably why. Nevermind, got my main lift so alls good for the time being.
@StLRPh - I hadn't thought of these actually, I'll give them a go after a few weeks of these maybe and see how they go, thanks.
Thanks for the support CoCoa and john o.

    13/02/10 Deadlifts

    210kg x 3
    240kg x 3
    267.5kg x 3/3/5 (590lbs)

    Shrugs 140kg x 8, 160kg x 8, 180kg x 8, 200kg x 8, 220kg x 8
    Seated Row, 90kg x 10/10/10
    R/D D/B 20kg x 12/12
    EZ Curls (DC Style) 40kg x 14/7/5/5/5/3/3/2/2
    Sidebends 22kg x 10/10

Haha today was the re-introduction to deadlifting hungover, whoops. On a more serous note my current goal, which is similar to a few others on here, is to achieve a elite raw total in the 110s at my next competition. Longer term I'd like to see how close I can get my total to 800kg by the time 2010 is out.

    Thanks Matt and CoCoa.

Nice deads. Big weight for reps. Maybe that's what I'm doing wrong, not drinking the night before.

    Nice deadlifts. Awesome in fact.

An 800kg total is a great goal. Will be fantastic to see you reach it.

    15/02/10 - Bench

    117.5kg x 5
    135kg x 3
    150kg x 1/1/2 (330lbs)

Wide Grip Extended Pause Bench 125kg x 5/5/5
    Pull Ups 8kg x 8/8/8/8/9
    Inc Bench. 100kg x 10, 110kg x 10/11
    Dips 50kg x 7/7/8
    D/B Shoulder Press 32kg x 8/8/12

Today was encouraging for bench, and by that I mean the way it feels, not the reps obtained. I've been struggling with my bench for a while now, it wasn't so long ago that I was getting 3x5reps with 150! The first 2 singles shot up today (which is why it was encouraging), I tried to go a bit mental for the last set but it didn't really work - overall it finally feels as though its going to head in the right direction though. Fingers crossed.

Oh and I also headed down to the gym yesterday to help a friend out and ended up doing a barbell complex I found on here and some neck work.

Flynn, john o, CoCoa and Matt, thanks for stopping by, checking in and for the encouragement!

Benching is hard to figure out for me. Glad to see you moving it in the right direction. Like the old school neck work too.

    17/02/10 - Squats

    162.5kg x 5
    182.5kg x 3
    205kg x 1/1/4 (452lbs)

    Bottom Up Squats 140kg x 3/3/3/5/5/5
    Step Ups 85kg x 12/12/12 (6 each leg)
    Smith Calves 120kg x 10/10/10/10/10
    Facepulls x A Bunch

Good session today, legs feel fried! On my rep out for squats after unracking the bar I remembered I'd forgotten to tighten my belt up properly which kind of threw me, more mentally than anything - would have been nice to get that 5th rep at 205, still I'll take 4! Also the bottom up squats were from a pin lower than last weeks so I'm below parallel now, hence the drop in weight.

Haha, Matt you'll have it in kilos soon enough, at which point you'll probably wish you were back in lbs funny how that works! Thanks for the welcome fixationdarknes and for checking in CoCoa. Glad you liked the neck stuff John, I dieted down over the summer for a holiday and decided to stay here (weight wise, not on holiday - the gym was s*** ) but I want my neck back so I'm throwing stuff in here and there, hope your back's all alright mate.

Outside the gym I'm not a huge fan of anything metal-ish, but I heard this on the radio last night and not managed to get it out of my head yet, you all have to suffer now too.

Solid session with the squats. 4 reps w/ 452 is impressive. Are you using sleeves or wraps on those?
