The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

It’s no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Strong stuff, you must have some healthy shoulders for dips that heavy. I hear you on the rows. The biggest DB's I have are 75's so I had to use 25lb plates (the standard style) to make a bigger bell. It works but restricts the ROM just a bit.

My shoulders take more of a beating on bench press. They've always done well on bar dips.
I have to use 25's too. I have to pull them past my hip to get the range of motion I want. I'm trying to get a "big boy" dumbbell handle for Father's Day.

    Squats - 300 lbs x 20
    S.l.d.l. - 295 lbs x 6 +2 +2 +2
    Barbell Curls - 95 lbs x 6 +2 +2 +2
    1 Leg Heelraise - +60 lbs x 15 +5 +5 +5
    Sit-ups - BW x 15 +5 +5 +5

    Notes:
I decided to get on with the 20 reppers this Summer. I tried 315 lbs on the S.l.d.l. but after the first rep I knew it wasn't going to happen today. So, I immediately dropped them down a bit to get all the reps. Everything else was pretty easy and I didn't feel like pushing the little stuff too hard today.

Thanks Kiff. I love 20 rep squats. Nothing makes me feel like I've actually done enough for growth.

They definitely work the conditioning. That's the hardest part.

20 reppers are tough on the system, but I love them.

No, not really. I had one when I first started but threw it away when I read that they were a crutch to building the core. Now that I've built a core, I want to add it back in so that I can see how much more I can do.

I'm just used to the 20 reppers, but they still gas me.

Definitely loving the SLDL from a few workouts back 325 is a big weight. Did something happen between that workout and the most recent one? I see you didn't want to work with 315 when you just did 325 before?

I'm trying to rig something up to be able to do weighted dips. 95 extra pounds is great! Do you have a dip belt? I bought a chain and was going to just loop it around my belt, but I won't be able to add much more weight, so I was thinking of getting a thick chain and using that as a belt, I'm not sure if it will be sufficient or not?

The 20 rep Squats just took too much out of me to be able to give a great effort on the Stiffies. I think next time I'll take a longer break between the two lifts, maybe do the Curls and Heelraises in-between the Squats and Stiffies.

I use a Chin/Dip weight belt. I bought it at WalMart many years ago. It was cheap, easy to use, and has held up great. If I didn't have access to one, I'd use a lifting belt and a length of chain fastened together with a clip. That would be much more comfortable than just using a chain.

I used to be a custom saddle maker, and I'm thinking of starting that up again. One of the things I'd like to make is a custom Chin/Dip belt and a lifting belt.

I'll say it again, wow 300x20!

Right that's it, I'm including some 20 rep squats in my program.

Maybe only once every two weeks but I'm curious and I want the challenge. I'm only just closing in on 300x6+2+2+2 though so promise not to laugh when I'm starting out!

Jesse Marunde squats 407x20 after heavy power cleans and hand-clap pull-ups. Have you seen this before? It's intense. If you get to 400x20 then you can claim to being almost as good at squats as Jesse Marunde!
