Thanks Brian, it just didn't feel like it.

Okay just do not have the energy any more, may be it it all the traveling and driving 70 miles one way to a gym, I just don't know but i don't feel like working out much.

    Monday

Did a lot of board benching raw really don't remember the numbers that is how bad I am and feel. But all benches were with 3 board and over 315 ... I think.

    Bagged Tuesday.

    Wednesday

    Raw Squats
Had a couple old friends (young kids in their late 20's) squatting so I joined them. Wanted to do high reps.

    135 x 10
    225 x 10
    315 x 10
    405 x 10
    425 x 8
    435 x 8
    445 x 5 Ugh! Just gave up I suck!

    GM's
    225 x 10
    275 x 10
    295 x 10

Stopped here on GM's the right knee was achy.

    Abductors
    70 x 20
    90 x 20
    110 x 20
    130 x 20
    150 x 20

    Adductors
    70 x 20
    90 x 20
    110 x 20
    130 x 20
    150 x 20
    170 x 20

    Called it there.
Just have a bad attitude right now not sure what the problem is. My squat sucks but I know I'm working the hams, glutes and groin a lot so may be they need to recoup and get better.
So I figure I'll take a whole week off after the meet July 7th. absolutely NO gym at all for that week. I may even drink a few beers too!
    Good Luck!

    BORs
    225 x 10
    275 x 10

Glutes and hams still hurt so stopped there.
    Shrugs

    80 x 15
    90 x 12
    90 x 12
    90 x 12

    Average Band Pull Down Crunches
    6 sets of 10 each

That was it, Bench felt great till the last set and it was hard but the bands were not too hard, wish I had a bench with a setup for bands. BORs were tough just cause of the legs being hurt.
Upper body is not sore today but the lower is still sore, never been like this so it is tough but I guess it is good too. Maybe I'm working something in a way that has not been worked on.
    Good Luck!

    Squats to parallel box

    55 x 5 heavy band
    55 x 5 heavy and average band
    145 x 3 heavy and average band
    235 x 3 heavy and average band

    Briefs on
    325 x 2 heavy and average band
415 x 1 heavy and average band think this was a PR for briefs

    suit on straps down
    485 x 1 failed too wide of a stance
    485 x 1 got it!

Band tension at the top was like 250lbs give or take 10lbs I guess you never know for sure but I go by Elite fit table for bands. So top was like ~730 not bad for straps down.

    Deadlifts quaded Monster Mini
    250 x 3
    250 x 3
    250 x 3
    250 x 3
250 x 3 ugly set was tired and fired.

So not bad for being sore in the legs but the suit helps. A pretty good workout and called it a day since i was hurting in the glutes and hams from mid week. Now garden work for the rest of the weekend .... Ugh!
    Good Luck!

Okay had a really bad bench day on 6/20 and did not post. Yes I got to 605 on a 2 board but it was just not right plus I had sunburn and was swollen a bit which made the shirt fit tighter than usual and just not feeling right. Also my hips and hams and glutes have been really hurting from squats (raw mostly) so I did not post and took the rest of the week off.
Yep imagine that, me taking 5 days off.
So Saturday I did squats, yea raw, go figure ... I'm Polish! blush

    Saturday raw squats
    55 x 5
    145 x 10
    235 x 5
    325 x 3
    415 x 2

    Working sets
    505 x 1
    505 x 1
    505 x 1
    505 x 1
    505 x 1

Nothing great but I felt good and no pains or pulls so were a couple were a tad high but a good workout. I still need to be tighter or practice it more.

    Deadlifts
So feeling good so what do I do? Quaed monster mini bands and I do SUMO stance! Yea dumb since I was recovering from glute and ham issues.

    225 x 3
    225 x 3
315 x 1 Boy did I feel this one pull in glutes.
    315 x 0
    Conventional stance
    315 x 1
315 x 0 3/4 way up but no lock out.

Done I could the strain on the glute and now a day later still hurting. Remains to be seen if I can bench with an arch tomorrow for openers.
So either I am build more strength in the glutes and hams or I am destroying myself in the squat. Got to figure out what is happening.
Plus I wonder if I have a hernia, I have a sharp pain in abdomen above the the belly button and just to the right. Hmmmm doctor's visit but after the meet.
    Good Luck!

Great job tonite Mike. You killed it on the bench. This is going to be very good bench meet for you. Don't let the numbers play with your head cause you have 600 bench in you easy. I would like to see you get after it on 2nd attempt, but have to wait and see how you feel that day. i would go at least 560 on opener though to get you a smaller jump to 600. can't wait to see it.

Well taking off the previous week seemed to help felt good and refreshed. The stomach muscle seemed to be just a pull and no pain toady, the glutes and hams still sore but minimal.

    Bench raw first
    45 x 10
    95 x 5 plus 50lbs chains
    95 x 5 plus 50lbs chains
    135 x 5
    225 x 5
    315 x 3
    365 x 1 felt strong

    Shirt on
    475 x 3 to 2 board good arch today
    515 x 1 to one board
555 x 1 touched popped up fast this is opener
    595 x 1 to 2 board easy
600 x 1 to 1 board easy but forgot to tuck the elbows

    Done.
Competition on 7/9/2011 for bench only in multiply. APA 242lb 50 -54 year old is 565, I should get it. All time record is 630lbs, I may have a shot at it if it is a good day. Not sure how the weights would go but would like to do 555, 580, 610 and if all is good I'd like to do 635.
This was the last heavy bench day till the meet.

Okay didn't post for a while since my workouts were light and was getting ready for that bench contest 7/9/2011.
Well if you don't follow my facbook then you didn't hear I bombed out.
The meet was not run in the best of ways and a lot of people complained but a meet is a meet and I do not argue with anyone when it comes to judging, it is what it is.
first attempt was 560, again it was too easy and I came up too fast and it pulled my shoulders off the bench and the bar came down again, Ugh! This is the second time this happened first was in the meet in May, oh well.
Second was 605 (was supposed to be 590 but my teammate and coach pushed it to 605), took it and thought it was heavy a bit but got it to touch and up with no problem but the one judge said it was not locked out and he was the director and president of the APA and said it was bad. The other 2 said I had it but were over ruled.
Third lift 605 again and this time it went even easier if you believe it. Got it up and my coach made me hold it even after the rack command so the president could come over and see it was locked for me. I held it for like 20 seconds, really. My coach said if it was not locked it would have started to come down, oh well it was called bad again.

So now I'm at weights that my injuries are starting to affect the lifts, torn groin on the squats and torn bicep tendon for benches. The bicep tendon I can get a doctor's note since I did go for that and there are MRI and therapy notes on the arm and how it cannot extend fully out, shy by about 15 degrees.
It was said that if I said something at the rules clinic I would have gotten away with it but I did not but next time I will.

    so today's workout
    Bench raw
    135 x 8
    135 x 5 plus 70lb chains
    185 x 5 70lb chains

    Working sets
    225 x 2 70lb chains
    225 x 2 70lb chains
    225 x 2 70lb chains
    225 x 2 70lb chains
    225 x 2 70lb chains
    225 x 2 70lb chains
    225 x 2 70lb chains
    225 x 2 70lb chains

    Board work (narrow grip)
    315 x 5 3 board
    365 x 3 3 board
    365 x 3 3 board
    365 x 3 3 board
    365 x 3 3 board
    365 x 3 3 board

That was it a good workout.
Now to train for the met in November see if I can get some good numbers and break 2000lb total and get the all time bench record for my age and weight class, only one more year for that to happen.
    Good Luck!

Yes. Mike's too nice to say it but I will. Terrible fucking calls. Terribly run meet. Absolutely pathetic for 3 years running now. I've got so much I could tell you Brian about why that meet sucks. We will no longer support it and I will do everything in my power to stop people from going to that meet. I've even called another meet director I work closely with about changing federations. I have never bitched about judges publicly before let alone on the platform but when a judge ADMITS he can't see and I catch him time and time again just calling whatever the other judge calls, I call bullsh1t.

I've done a number of APA meets in the past and whenever Scott Taylor is running them, they suck. The best ones I've done were the ones he had no part of. They held a national ranked meet here in Z-Hills Florida at a local gym, lol and if I recall they didn't even have spotters and they were asking our guys to spot. I will never do an APA meet again. When it comes to multi-ply, I will stick with APF and probably APF only. I lost alot of respect for the SPF as well.

Yes Hop, I really want to do an APF but none are around us. Plus my buddy Joe Smolinski the guy I'm trying to catch in bench press multiply (in my age and weight class) is in that Fed. I'd love to compete against him in a meet, two Old farts clashing it out.
But looks like I will compete in Kate Baird's meets (she is APA) but real good and fair on the meets. Else I'll go in IPA and hope I can mend some open wounds with Gene Rychlark.

    Okay Wednesday 7/13/2011

    Squats raw
    45 x 10
    135 x 8
    185 x 6
    275 x 5
    365 x 5
    415 x 5
    455 x 5

Really did not have a plan as first week back after the meet so just played along. The right glute still hurts like it is pulled but after 135 lift nothing so it was good. I still wonder what this is and how to help it.

    Leg Press
    100 x 10
    200 x 10
    300 x 10
    400 x 10
    500 x 10
    600 x 10
    700 x 10
    800 x 10
900 x 10 felt like the bad torn groin was ging to tear on the last few of these but got all ten reps with some rest on each rep.
    1000 x 10

the last set felt good no pain in groin muscle don't know what the problem was.

So wanted to do some thing different so leg ext and curls

    Leg Ext
    170 x 10
    170 x 10
    170 x 10
    170 x 10
    170 x 10

    Leg curls
    135 x 10
    150 x 10
    165 x 10
    165 x 10
    165 x 10

    Sitting calf raises
    90 x 15 x 6sets

    Done!
Little sore but then I done no legs for almost 3 weeks. I'll get back into this just got to push myself more.
    Good Luck!

Hey Mike you need to slow down, enjoy the process and look to the positives alittle more often. I'm sure that the squat was a pr. first few sets looked strong. you got alittle tired, oh well first day back. Your doing great just keep ur eyes on the finish line. you don't need to be the fast starter, just the strongest finisher you can be

Sooner or later, something has to be good enough Mike. You can't spend every day looking back. Yes, we all know you've done 575 with the chains for an easy 4 sets back in January. BUT. You have been out of gear and focusing on benching 600 for a few months now. No one said you COULDN'T do it, we just said you SHOULDN'T be doing it YET. Like Tim said, start to enjoy the process and not every single result of every single day. Don't get to high on the good days and don't get too low on the bad. Study your training as a WHOLE not as individual separate events.

There are so many things I want to say to this and hope I can get it all out in some reasonable statement.
First I'm 54 years old (AND GOD I HATE PULLING OUT THE AGE CARD) and don't knoe how much time I have in order to do or keep doing this and I want to be the best in my age and weight class, and not in one federation but in all. Yea big wishes but I feel I'm close ( atleast till last weeks squats), darn close and I only started this at age 50. So yes I need to review each workout and the results have got to be great not good. I have one year now to do a lot of things in this age and weight class and with me loosing strength in squats is just bad, yes the bench went up but you know I'm not a single event person I like FULL POWER meets. I am super criticall on myself cause I have to be since really how stong do you think you get in your 50's? I think no one knows only doctors that tell you not to do this stuff cause the body can't take it.
But I do think I have laid off the intensity a lot lately and need to put it back in to my training. You always said I did too much and I strated to believe you and lighten up and now not so great results. I think you now know, doing Smolov now, that intensity does procdure results.
Now don't get me wrong you said some great things here about me (perhaps for the first time j/k) and I appreciate it and still want you to "hlep me protect me from myself" cause I can really screw myself up in workouts. I really liked trainig with you guys at Retro during the week and miss that so I will push myself harder on the Tuesday to Thursday workouts and stay more close to workable weights Saturday and Monday just with more volume.
Time is not my friend and every day it takes some thing from me and I try to get it back with my workouts.
    Good Luck!

Okay Monday was a bust! couldn't even bench 515 to a 2 board. Shoulder was really hurting so stopped it their. Went home and iced it.
Tuesday had to work till 11:00pm, so nothing that day.
    Wednesday, ahhhh Squats!

    Squats raw with average band.
    45 x 10

    Added bands here on
    45 x 10
    135 x 10

    Working sets
    225 x 3
    225 x 3
    225 x 3
    225 x 3
    225 x 3
    225 x 3
    275 x 3
    315 x 3

All were easy and we had 3 guys (including myself) in the rotation with no real rest except for the others to do their sets. Worked on the speed going down and up and I thought I did well and stayed tight.

Leg Press 10 x 10 (yes the usual)
    100 x 10
    200 x 10
    300 x 10
    400 x 10
    500 x 10
    600 x 10
    700 x 10
    800 x 10
Felt the left groin pulling again on this set, Uhg!
900 x 10 no pull here just strong odd.
    1000 x 10 easy!

Wow, thought it would be hard but got it done with no rest again except with the other 2 guys doing their sets. that pull is odd maybe I'm too loose on it thinking it would be lighter than it was and had bad form.

    GMs
    135 x 10
    225 x 10
    225 x 10
    225 x 10
    225 x 10

    Get back into these.

All in all light and fast and flt good afterwards, oh also did calf raises the kids I work out with like to do these, Ugh body builders, but I burnt them out by GMs so i had to give in to calf raises. can't wait to see them tomorrow, hehe.
    Good Luck!

That was not a bad workout at all Mike. I don't mind the volume, just watch the intensity. Or, if you want to go heavy, cut back on the sets. Remember, balance. I actually skipped my speed day yesterday because I was just too damn tired. Today I have to go in and do 7x5 w/ 395. It bothered me to take that day off, but in the end it will help. That's all I'm looking to you for, some balance between constantly pushing until you drop, and doing enough so you still get stronger. Nice workout.
