The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

It’s no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

That sounds great! My uni gym membership runs out the end of the month and I've scouted out a much better gym that's still fairly near. It used to be an old working man's club/gym set up by some military guy. It's the oldest gym in the area and has had quite a few national weightlifters and powerlifters train out of it.

I'm a bit nervous but I'm hoping they'll be a decent bunch of lads.

Daniel, I've wondered this for a while, but are you British? I've noticed you occasionally say things like "blokes" and "trainers" instead of "sneakers." Just wondering.

    Squat therapy

Well as the title suggest i went for some good old fashioned squat therapy to take my mind of stuff. AWESOME.

Squating onto a bench again, this time i didnt miss depth once so form well and truely nailed at this weight, time to start upping it all again, just wanted to pause my workout weights for a bit as i am still a beginner and i don't want to progress with crap form and cheat myself.

    Squats

6+2+2+2x117.5KG (258.5LBS) Getting to 300 one day at a time

    SLDL

6+2+2+2x80KG (176LBS) Massive struggle after the squats...

    Calf raises

    Lotsxlots ....

    Core to finish

Good session lots of intensity, was completely fubar after this

    Upper body

Upper body session today, i have felt really ill today I could only stomach about 1000calories in 14hours of being awake, not good, ground out a session anyway.

    Bench

    6+2+2+2x80KG (176LBS)

    Dips

6+2+2+2x17KG 37.4LBS Pretty crap the energy had just left me completely

    One armed rows

    6+2+2+2x34KG (74.8LBS)

    Rack Chins

    6+2+2+2x20KG (44LBS)

Standing OH Press After reading an old thread on here about OH press i tried standing press for the first time, I liked it a lot! felt good, my shoulders did not hurt like they do on seated press and it looks frickin' awesome, I know the last reason is not a good one but hey!

6+2+2+2x35KG (77LBS) Not too much just getting used to it for starters

Hope i feel better tomorrow so i can get some decent food down me before legs day on Wednesday.

    Epic fail

Just a crap session to be honest, i have not eaten more than 1500Calories in about 3 days, and if i have i have ended up seeing some again just ill, feel crap and probably should not have even tried the gym today.

Hopefully going to get my diet back on track tomorrow.

Mate, if you're ill then take some time off. No point running your body into the ground. And I remember reading that carbohydrates are more important than vitamin c or any supplements for improving your condition and getting back to good health. So carb up. Comfort food and rest.

Right back in the gym tomorrow I hope things start going up again, i feel much better atm.

I do however want to drop the dips fro something else. I find it too hard at the moment doing both Bench and Dips and getting a good amount out of both.

Any recommendations i am thinking skull crushers or something like that.

    Back ON!

Finally, after sticking with the training after 3/4 crap sessions it paid off.

I ate well today and yesterday for the first time (been very very sick)

    Bench

    6+2+2+2x80KG (176LBS)

    Skull Crushers

6+2+2+2x20KG (42LBS) Easy bar great movement love it!

    One Armed Rows

    6+2+2+2x38KG (83.6LBS)

    Standing OH Press

    6+2+2+2x(66LBS) NEW PR

    Rack Chins

    6+2+2+2x20KG (44LBS)

On another good note I have my induction to the Strongman gym near me tomorrow at 11, need a good nights sleep because it is legs day tomorrow and I don't want to look like a muppet. Really looking forward to getting into a real gym and I hope it will only improve my condition and motivation!

Good Decision if I do not say so myself, hit a nice new bit of my triceps that don't normally hurt to move after a workout

This is really shaping up. Get some photos of the new gym if you can. It would be cool to see what kind of equipment they've got there. Get that SLDL up a bit more and the squat will be 135kg in no time!

Yeah my SLDL is so weak im not sure what i am doing wrong with that tbh mate weird.

Anyway. Attached are some images of this gym, one has people in I as I did not take them it was only fair I cropped the heads out of course

I got filled with an excitement I had not felt since I was a kid at Christmas when I saw the Atlas Stones and the Tires outside. I was looking at some of the posters around and the Gym owner won various body-building competitions and the guy in the squat rack had won Britain's strongest man 5 times in the 70's and his picture was up on the wall it was all pretty impressive. However more to the point I got offered more help and advice tonight than I got at 6months at my last gym.

They hold a strongman competition for novices 4times a year so I would like to try one next Spring after some serious training. I dont want to bore people but more people talked about their diet in there tonight than how much they benched, what a new environment that was. Brilliant chaps and I am now a member so i have to knuckle down and sort my stuff out and learn all I can.

I had a good session today, did some deload work with a friend that is a member there today.

    Wide Grip Pullups

    12xBodyweight

    Chin Ups

    7xBodyweight

    One Armed Rows

    15x35KG (3sets) (77LBS)

    LOADS OF UBER CURLS

    Bent over Row

    3x15x45KG (100LBS)

    Bench

    3x10x60KG (132LBS)

Did some core as well, just wanted to get a feel fro things there back to normal workouts tomorrow i should think,.

Let me know any thoughts on the pictures

Oh yeah the DB's go up to 70KG (154LBS) So doubt I will be outgrowing this gym

    Second Deload day

Just worked out with my friend again at my new gym

Loads of shoulder work as it is a real week point for me, but Deload seemed like a good time to build them up from scratch

    DB Press

    3x15x17.5KG (38.5LBS)

    Front Raises

    2x15x12KG (26.4LBS)

    Side Raises

    3x15x5KG (11LBS)

    OH Press

    30 Reps with a 25KG plate and 50 Reps with a 20KG bar

Sounds silly this much volume on my shoulders but they are so weak and i just need to sort myself out and practice the movements as much as possible.

Back to some heavy work tomorrow with cluster training on squats and deads my training partner is a royal marine so he is great at the volume work but i will kill him with the squats tomorrow i hope.

Still firmly on HCT-12 even if we seem to be loosing the people that started the program... JC that'd be you

    Introduced my friend to HCT-12 it was a fun session, looked like this;

    Deadlifts

I have not done full deads in a few months, i was happy i managed to increase my weight by training the SLDL. gonna stick with ful deads for a while.

    6+2+2+2x115KG (253LBS)

Squats I will admit that i felt a bit wobbly after the deads again but i hit good depth and my friend would call to me when i was low enough, gotta love having a training partner

6+2+2+2x115KG (253LBS) Looks like deads and squats are pretty level

    Calf raises

    3x15x70KG

    Hack Squats

Never tried these before just jumped on at the end.

6+2+2+2x25KG Just little ones to get used to it..

Good session felt strong had a bit left in the tank on the deadlifts and would have easily got 125 on the squat if i did them first will swap next time...

Anyone else noticed it is a little dead on here recently?

Hey, I stuck around for ages. I don't even have a gym membership right now! I'm spending about fifteen hours a day sat in front of my laptop writing. In a couple of week's time I should have the new gym and then I'm going to destroy some weights. I'm already missing it. I ran for almost a full hour on Friday night, I was that desperate for exercise.
