The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

It’s no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    SLDL's

    10x60KG

Good little session today, nice that the weeks of work on form and confidence building has helped when i rack the big weight up again

That 300LB dead or squat should be achievable now with my stronger form Just one day at a time

    Upper Body

Still not strictly back on track with the program proper, still using the clusters but still focusing on a few weak points, i feel that i have reached a good strength and i just want to get it all right and level before movign onwards again

    OH Press Bar

    6+2+2+2x45KG 100LBS

    DB Press

    6+2+2+2x22.5KG (50LBS)

    Shrugs

    6+2+2+2x70KG (154LBS)

    Bench

    6+2+2+2x75KG (165LBS

    No spotter for the above

A load of Core to finish, just to elt you know i am back on a strict HCT-12 as of Tuesday afternoon next week, just working with my gym instructor (previous bodybuilder turned strongman) to work on some weak points it sucks to lift low weights but will be worth it

Working on your form and weak points is a great idea. Staying healthy and racking up a bunch of workouts is the key to it all. Good for you.

    Two, read it, two PR's

    Squats

6+4x120KG (264LBS) Now this felt ok! had two spotters that told me to press as I hit good depth so I know I managed to get these in form, as you can tell I opted not to do the clusters, I did four as my spotters had to leave and I thought it better to get 4 good, safe reps and call it a day there. I defiantly have 125 maybe 130 in me, no idea where it has come from, my form and hard but lighter work over the last month is starting to pay off, in great, 5KG plate chunks. I have to be honest, in an earlier post I posted a squat of 122.5, I recently found out that that GYM bar I used for squatting was 15KG! DAMN so this is even more of a PR than I thought!

    Deadlift

    6+2+2+1x115KG (253LBS)

This is also a new PR, used straps, and a belt, but it counts Also this is 157% of my Bodyweight, the Squat was 161%

    SLDL

10x90KG Guess that is a PR too

20 reps on 40KG squats and some core to finish, well done in

Thanks for checking in mate, it defiantly took some effort but I think I could dead more if I had not squatted so much to start!

Thanks for checking in again OR feel pretty lonely in a mainly empty section of the forum now!
It hurts like a mother today I tell you!

Kong thanks for popping in again, I admit my upper body has bot made the gains to catch headlines but I have been fousig on my OH press as it was painfully weak, seeing pr's in that each session so I am really happy. I am trying not to let my bench ego dictate my upper body sessions lol.

Slowly it all seems to be falling into place, thank you for your support chaps!

Right back to strict HCT-12 today after taking some time doing bits and bobs focusing on weak points.

I will post my workout and then comment on how it felt.

    DB Bench

    6+2+2+2x30KG (66LBS) PR

    OH DB Press

    6+2+2+2x22.5KG (49.5LBS)

    Pullups

    Wide grip Bodyweight x15

    DB Row

    6+2+2+2x35KG (55LBS)

    Dips

    6+2+2+2x10KG

    Core to finish

Now, today did not feel as fulfilling or useful to me as the previous few weeks had been on a more split routine, I felt an odd mix between fatigue in general for my upper body BUT individual muscle groups did not feel so tiered. I don't really know what to make of it yet. I think I prefer working on individual body parts or areas each workout, I have run HCT-12 for 6months now, maybe it is time for a change?

However after only 1session back on it it would be rude and stupid to make a snap decision, I will continue for at least another week to check it was not a one off feeling.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated, the last thing I want to do is loose my way in my confusion over training preferences I just felt I made better progress when I concentrated more on certain areas each workout. I have always had a lot of muscle endurance and it has taken a while to feel i am getting anywhere

I hate it when the duldrums set in, tired of the same 'ol thing every time. I don't see anything wrong with reorganizing the split to make it seem fresh and interesting to you.

    Thanks stlrph.

OR I think I will think of a fresh split but keep the cluster idea for the big 3 and then add some accessory work in at higher volume. I will post it tomorrow or later tonigt I don't want to post a critique my routine post but I would be very grateful for any ones input! I am aware I have little experience and that may show!

Could be that you recovered faster than expected from upper body exercises so did not feel the expected soreness - rather just the overall tiredness that comes from a good workout. Happens to me sometimes, especially when upper body comes after leg day.

    Congrats PR.

No it's not the pain or fast recovery it's just I don't feel like it gives me the time to get into my stride, then just as I feel I have 'woken' my muscles up it's over, and I am sure I am ramping ok, Maybe it is in my head maybe I just need a fresh approach

I've gone through some of your recent posts but don't want to assume I know the problem because presently it's unclear. So if it helps can you put together a list of the issues and I'll try and go through them.

Hey Daniel I had hoped you had been watching! Here is a quick list of things on my mind.

-hct-12 seems to leave me feeling fatigued but not in a way that I have actually fulfilled anything
-I seem to feel more generally tiered rather than muscles tiered or used
-I feel as I start to get into my stride with movements it is time to stop an work something else
-I felt more focused and driven when I can target areas of my body rather than just upper/lower
-would you suggest mixing a cluster type approach for the big 3 and then some higher rep stuf in?
-had any earlier editions of your program worked like this?
    - I was just finding I was settling in to a routine too much and routinely working rather than working a routine does that make any sense?

Daniel these issues are more me than than the program! Thanks for giving me something that has already made me the strongest I have ever been! I look forward to your thoughts.

Well here is what I propose my new workout would look like, any advice or comments would be greatly appreciated

It will be a four day split. I want to focus around he big three movements but also have a day for lighter bits and pieces with OH pressing in there for some shoulder work

The big lifts I plan to keep the ramping idea just keep it down a lot more.

    Day one

Bench Press 4x5 with clusters to end the highest set. I dropped it from 6 to 5 to enable me to push a bit further.

DB Press 2x10 Much lower weight

Dips 3x10 Adding weight accordingly and according to feel.

Some from of tricep movement Skullcrushers most probably

    Day Two

Deadlifts 4x5 Clusters for last one as with the bench

Bent over rows 6x6 (I find that after deads my upper back hurts anyway so may as well put these in there

Wide Grip Pull Ups 3x10 working up to this

    Day Three

OH Press 4x5 with clusters to end alternate standing and seated each week

Lat raises and front raises 3x10

may well chuck some shrugs in

    Load of core work

    Day Four

Squats 6x5 Higher volume as I feel I take a while to get warm on squats. And the practice will do me no harm, Clusters on the last one of course

    Hack squats 3x10

Maybe chuck in some lunges if I can really be bothered.

    More core

I know this is far from ideal, it is really what I was working on for the last week or so, please any comments would be great, it feels as tho i have missed something or have left myself too stretched. It is not final yet i am with HCT-12 for now Thanks again for everyone's input so far.
