lol who is this directed at?

I think there is quite a few people that squat over 400 here. I too plan on being there in a couple of years

I have seen it done by a few people at my gym also.

If I am right Ronan squats this and he is 18

also a 300 lb bench has to bemore impressive than a 400 squat right?

Wow, I didn't know he was so young. Damn! Very impressive for his age. Anyway 400 isn't all that much, one of my friends could squat 600+. But then again he is 210lbs and took the paradise cup here in Hawaii.

Yeah, that really isn't that much. I guess that's kind of a lot for the basic recreational lifter, but in the scheme of things, it's not all that impressive.

    Well...

Considered it as full squat, instead of those that claimed to be parallel or close to parallel (half/quarter squat in fact), it is way more impressive than a 300lb bench. Look at Dave Draper's impressive squat pic at his website. It is impressive.

A true 400+ squat is outstanding for a lifter 200 pounds or less.

It isn't all that unusual, though.

I'm doing a PLing meet in Feb as a 220, and I'll probably squat just over 400. I'll be competing against people who squat over 600.
    Squats work better than supplements.
"You know, if I thought like that, I'd never put more than one plate on the bar for anything, I'd never use bands or chains, I'd never squat to parallel or below, and I'd never let out the slightest grunt when I lift. At some point in your lifting career (assuming you're planning on getting reasonably strong and big), you're going to have to accept that most people think you are some kind of freak." -Sensei

A 400+ pound squat isn't that impressive. @ 170 pounds, every power lifting meet I went to, I hit 450+ everytime. There were guys there though that was hitting over 500 though and under 185..

Well Dennis James has got a center fold pic doing FRONT SQUATS with 405.........

400 lbs squats are really not that much......now 5 plates up for reps now we are talking.

My training partner, who is a champion natural middleweight bodybuilder, squatted 445 the other day at a weight of 185. He also has a 495 deadlift. Not a great bencher though. Strong mofo he is!

A 400 squat could be impressive depending on how big the person is,there age, or if they are a bodybuilder or powerlifter. In powerlifting the largest squat right now is 1041! I met up with a guy at my last comp. that was 21 weighed 215 and squated 656 easy. He has a 425 front squat too!

I am squatting 450 for 7 full reps at the moment. My form has improved alot too which really helps with leg growth.

As long as you are pushing as hard and as heavy a YOU can it is impressive in my opinion.

I was squatting 400 at 5'7 165lbs. I've been lifting with a guy that's 5'6 140 and sqatting 400. He was goin just below parallel as well. Granted, us short guys don't have as far to move but still. lol. 300lb bench is more impressive and something I have some time before I hit.

id have to say that a 300lbs bench is mucj more impressive then a 400lbs squat; 400lbs for a squat is very common, at 19 i was hitting 350 for 12 reps, it was mentally hard to visualize 4 plates on each side, but nonetheless conquerd, my ultimate goal is to squat 3x my body weight. and bench 2x.

I think it's impressive. I've seen plenty of people write that they can squat 400+, but in the gym you don't see it much.

I suck at squatting and suck at benching, but I'm beginning to think that a 300 bench is gonna be easier for me to get than a 400 squat.

Well, like all non-sanctioned lifts, it is all relative. For example, if one squats with the bar high on the back and goes down to a point where their ass almost touches the floor, 400 lbs without a suit, knee wraps, and a powerlifting belt is quite a lot. If one squats to a roughly parallel position, with the bar low on the back, knee wraps etc., then it is still a good lift, but not fantastic. Form and helping apparatus can make a huge difference in the squat. For myself, there is a huge difference in what I can squat if I go to parallel vs. ass to the floor. Always be wary of what someone claims to lift on the internet because of the huge role that form can play.

Tadger, u're rite on short ppl squatting a lot! i haven't lifted that long, usually only in the summer, and sporadically everytime else, but when i was 5'4 at 135-40, my squat was 355. my twin bro squatted 365x2 at 130. too bad i got really sick recently, i was really looking forward to squatting 400 at under 140 (i'm ~140 now) by next summer, but it seems unlikely now.

And there's the truth. Lots of people say they can, but rarely do you see it. I've had people come up in the past claiming to squat 400+ and thenwatch them get stuck under 275lbs on the friggin' smith machine. What a joke.
