    Bumper Plates

    I have little experience with bumper plates and was wanting to get a set to teach new clients how to deadlift while being at the proper height. Would 10lb bumper plates work for teaching how to deadlift or are they too flimsy? There's a big difference in price from 10lbs to 25lbs so I'd like to stick with the 10lbers if they are strong enough.

    hmm they might wobble a bit without some really strong collars, but they should be able to support the bar fine.

    Also I didn't even think about 15lbers. Hows the durability difference from 10lbs to 15lbs and 15lbs to 25lbs?

    One of the places where I train has a pair of 10 lbs bumpers from MuscleDriverUSA. They have used them for over a year and the bumpers hold up very well, including use on log pressing (the log weighs 90 lbs which puts additional stress on the bumpers). I would not add too much extra plate weight because you risk splitting the bumpers, but overall these have proven to be quite durable.

    I would recommend MuscleDriver for any of your bumper needs - they sell pairs of 45's for $129.99 including shipping, or 25's for $69.99 including shipping (blowout special). The 10's which are not on clearance are $64.99, so I would suggest just going with the 25's as long as your clients are able to deadlift 95 lbs or more.

    I would recommend http://www.wrightexercise.com They have 10lbs plates for $12 plus shipping. I myself have some of their 15s, 35s and 55s and I'd willing to bet that the 10's would be fine for technique training. Wright is highly recommended by the people over at the crossfit boards and as long as you aren't dropping the 10's on a bar by themselves from over head they'll be fine.
