    Shoulder pain after squatting

I was doing some warm up squats today (low bar across my traps) when, after I was completely done squatting, my left trap felt like it had a knot in it. I moved my arm around and noticed moderate pain going throughout my arm. Needless to say, I stopped working out. Since it was not immediate, I am guessing it is just a pulled muscle, but I want some opinions on this. What is it, and what can I do to help it?

sounds like a cramp. could be a number of things. you might have inadequate water intake which would leave you more susceptible to simple cramps like that. even though you are squatting and you might think that your shoulders have little to do with the exercise, you should still make sure you warm your whole body up before you do so. when i get cramps i usually massage the target area for a bit, then do some light weight movements for that muscle to increase the blood flow and help loosen me up, then add in a few stretches. that helps a lot, whether its cramped, sore, or just tight. shoulders (at least for me) seem to be the most prone to injury, so i always pay a bit of extra attention to loosening them up to avoid any kind of injury. good luck
