The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

It’s no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Good squat session. Heavy weight and many reps. I like it!

On the rep stuff, I think thats a good idea. It'll be a nice change for you and training in that rep range may even drive some hypetrophy for you.

Have you thought about training in both rep ranges?

For example, I tend to follow a 4 week progression cycle where one of those weeks I train at 6 reps and then the other 2 are 10-12 and the last one is a back off (at 6 reps actually). This allows you to stay in the 10-12 rep area and focus on form but you know 2 out of 4 weeks you have some 6 rep sessions where you can up the weight and go for it.
i am right now. AM training is str, PM has been in hypertrophy range. however, double sessions wore me out FAST.. not a shock at all, really. so im going to try to stick to hypertrophy for a while since strength levels are pretty decent

yes. i am waiting until my extended warranty on my truck runs out then im going to use that as a trade on maybe a c63, m3.. maybe a used maserati. dont know. kinda against a used luxury sports car as any repair will probably rape me. for all i know, i will pussy out entirely and keep my truck. its paid off and completely sunk.. so dunno. depends what kind of money im making in the next year or two

I really enjoy my lifting when I just pick a few exercises where I have specific weekly increments that I want to hit, usually everything else falls in line. I usually choose squats, rows, 1 or 2 pressing exercises and then I just watch everything else fall in line.

I'd like to see you repping 365 on the regular.

    scott, me too. daniel, dunno.

sooo lethargic today. i dunno wtf is wrong with me. shoulder was not ready for intense efforts... very obvious in this session. it could also be that working in 8s instead of 5s hurt strength? i could def feel the 110s more at 8 than 5. to be expected i guess. 125x8 may be a few weeks off

def no double session today. the lethargy is confusing. sleep was very good last night and sat...my back of all things is sore.. maybe from the decline situps on sunday. the bench angle was new to me? o well.

Dude, I'm pretty sure you got yourself slightly overtrained with those double sessions. Sometimes it takes 2 or 3 weeks to get back to normal. Don't sweat it, you'll feel good soon enough. Keep your sessions brief and intense for a couple of weeks. And eat some good food.

When did you last take a straight week off training heavy? A good deload/tick over week where you catch up on sleep and recovery might just be what you need.

Also, training at 8+ is definately tough, more so 12+. Something about it just drains you compared to training in the 5 rep range.

I agree with this. Stick to some lower volume sessions for a while?

I'd knock off the two-a-days crap too, especially for those pressing movements. Two-a-days are for AAS users.

daniel i did hold off because my back is pretty worn out from squats over the weekend which fell on sat instead of friday like usual. i definitely could have nailed 455 today. 425x3 was easy. i usually go touch and go.. but they were from a dead stop, which is clearly harder. the foot is good.. now the left shoulder vertical movement feels good.. horizontal is a no go. im going to stick to dbs on thursday and stay in higher reps. no heavy work

thanks terry. no double.. i am just getting stuck in work too late to make it worthwhile going back for a second session. its unfortunate...

I say keep it short and sweet with the shoulder workout. It could serve you well to do a few periodic workouts where the volume isn't very high. I believe you could still gain off of a lower volume routine for a brief period and during that time I'm sure your recovery systems will pick up so you are ready to hit the higher volume for a while.
