The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Its no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    What's your one goal?

What is your #1 "I've made it" goal? What is that one thing you can achieve that will let you know that you are a somebody in the lifting world? Is it an 18" arm? Is it a triple bodyweight deadlift? Is it a six-pack? What's your yard stick?

For many years now, my main goal was to be able to rep 225 on bench. Two months ago, I reached this goal by being able to bench 225 for 5x5. However, since then, I graduated university so I went on vacation for a month, etc so I'm back down to about 195 but will progress back up shortly.

Other main goals - DL 405, Squat 315
    Age: 25
    Height: 5'7"
    Weight: 175lbs
    Body Fat around 12%
    Biceps: 14.5"
    Chest: 38"

    Bench Press: 225 x 10 reps and 275 pounds x 1 rep
    Deadlift: 405 pounds x 1 rep
    Squat: 335 pounds x 3 reps

When people say 18" inch arms is that flexed or unflexed? Also if you are say 5' 10" and weigh 200-210 pounds wouldn't your arms be around 18 inches flexed anyway ? I would think most linebackers in the NFL are well over 18".
    Peace

Most top level natural bodybuilders have a TRUE 18" bicep, if you take out the exaggerated claims. An 18" arm is truly a massive gun.

Amen! Since mine is only 4 weeks and some change old, I have plenty of time to get huuuuuuge!

I would like to squat and deadlift 500+ and bench 400 raw. Squat and deadlift are close, a looooooooooooong way to go on bench.
Most people pray for a lighter load in life...ever thought of praying for a stronger back?

Goals as of 2/08/11 (current) goal:
    Squat: (505) 535, Deadlift: (475) 500, Bench: (325) 350 Total: 1305 (1385)
    BW: 225 as of 02/01/2011 Goal: 205 by May 1, 2011

just remember this "I've got a gun and a shovel...and you won't be missed". I head that one when I was 17 or so.

as for my goal, i've always been a heavier guy, with extra weight around my belly. I'd like to keep my body weight-175-but reduce fat and increase muscle mass, and i guess i will have reached my goal when i can see my 6 pack. yeah for recomposition!

Interesting that this is a weight lifting AND BODYBUILDING forum. Yet, most every reply is geared towards lifting goals.

Bench 315 for some reps, and 405 once. (rehab shoulder first... was almost there. )

No squat or deadlift goals due to a bad knee... but I also have a young daughter (5 months old) and I too get motivated by knowing I will crush the boys' egos that come over to date her. That and I'll be cleaning a few guns when they arrive.
