    I'm back

It feels good to post on Wannabebig once again, like being back home

I could start this journal by going on about excuses as to why I haven't lifted in the past year, but I'll try to keep that to a minimum. Excuses haven't done me any good, so I've hit the iron again and I'm ready to post some workouts. I am in a much different part of my life than I once was here on Wannabebig. I've recently purchased my first home, have a good secure job, and have a beautiful girl of 2 1/2 years to enjoy it all with.

This past week I picked up another 245lbs of Olympic weights to add to my set and a few more extras. I've set up my equipment in the garage and am working on purchasing some new mats, mirrors, etc. For the time being, I don't have any dumbbells so my exercises will be based around the barbell. I've been working out this past week and will start this journal with today's workout that I just finished. My routine will consist of an Upper/Lower split.

    Current weight ~ 155lbs

    Friday, May 21st, 2010

    Lower Body

    BB Squats
    135 x 8
    165 x 8
    185 x 8
    185 x 6
    165 x 8

    SLDL's
    135 x 8
    165 x 8
    165 x 8

    BB Lunges
    8/8 x 95
    8/8 x 95

    BB Calf Raises
    135 x 8
    135 x 8
    135 x 8

    Decline Sit-Ups
    BW x 15
    BW+10 x 15
    BW+10 x 15

    Overall

Phew. Workouts seem to kick my ass right now. I don't remember workouts taking that much out of me. It's incredible how much can be lost, or gained, in only a year. I can't even describe how good it feels though. I swear I could just feel my endorphins. It's good stuff. The workout was great overall. I will be eating a ton and I expect gains to come back quick. I'm looking forward to it.

I have the weekend off and my next workout is Upper Body Monday.

I'm going to update this post later tonight with my calorie intake for the day. I am on track right now.

    HELL YEAH!

Dude haven't talked to you in so long man! I'm happy that you seem content with the direction your life has headed. I recently just started lifting again around January/February, didn't take very long to rebound and it has been great.

You know I was just thinking about you the other day, wondering where you are. We used to talk every day haha. Good ol' Guild Wars too. I'm so excited right now

I'll be looking forward to your return of progress. Once again... welcome home!

    Haha, what's up buddy?

It's good to hear that you're also back in the game. I'll have to check out your journal tonight. How has your progress been since you've been back at it? Boy is it tough when you start back up. I feel so far behind, but I know it'll come back and more.

Progress has been most fantastic (up until now where I've probably wore off my n00b gains and am hitting some walls). Due to the wise council of some really great members here I started off using the Starting Strength routine and have since changed it around to suit my needs and desires, but am still keeping the same basic idea. I probably took 4-5 years off of lifting overall, interrupted by about 3-4 months of lifting 2.5 years ago. So with that in mind though I basically haven't lifted in almost 3 years and I think within about 3 months due to the frequent focus of the important heavy compound lifts I've caught back up and started to surpass my old levels. Granted I am a bit older now than I was before so that perhaps has affected things, but regardless I know you'll bounce back quick. Oh boy the good ol' days of doing Arnold Presses haha.

It is definitely tough starting back up. Dude, the worst for me was the day after I did Deadlifts again for the first time. Holy crap, I couldn't sit, or walk, or stand, or lie down, or do anything without my back just raping me lol.

Me and you are in the same weight range right now. I'm slowly but surely making my way up to about 165 (the short-term goal for now). We shall eat carbs together and gain weight together. Onward!

Thanks CoCoa. I can always count on you for some extra journal motivation.

That's good stuff Fixation. It's good to hear that things have been coming back nicely. That's what happens when you're young and knowledgeable. I'm looking to achieve similar results coming back. I hear ya on the deadlifts, although squats get me the worst. The most difficult part about coming back for me is the soreness after my first couple good squat workouts. I feel crippled for days. 165 is also my short-term goal. That used to be my steady weight so I want to be back there asap.

Yesterday I was exhausted and fell asleep before I was able to update my calories. I ended with a little over 3,000. It could have been worse, but that's short of my goal. I'm shooting to be in the 3500-4000 range daily. It seems more difficult to handle the calories like I used to, so I'll be happy with hitting a solid 3500 a day and slowly bumping it back up to 4,000 and beyond. I've been eating nonstop since I woke up an hour ago so today shall be good.

Haha. Speaking of being crippled, have you spoken with Canadian Crippler in a while?

Good deal with the calories dude. With that attitude you will put on some weight fast! =D And that has happened to me all too many times. I'm lying in bed taking a break from eating or something and am planning to go get some more food in 10 minutes and then I end up waking up in the morning feeling like a starved piece of crap lol.

Phew. Busy busy past couple of days. I'm officially exhausted.

I haven't spoken with CC in a longgggg time. It's probably been a couple of years. Last I recall talking to him, he was getting into some bad stuff or something. I have no idea what he's up to now though.

    Overall

Great workout. I don't have the muscle endurance that I used to, but it will be back quick. I always notice this when I've taken a break from lifting. Some of those exercises were brutal at the end. I thought I was going to fall apart by the time I finished my last set of benching. Overall though, I feel GREAT.

I just need to keep pounding the calories. The working out is the easy part. The calories are the difficult part and the part that will determine my progress.

I don't have a scale and I'm not real worried about weighing myself. I want to weigh myself a month from now and be stoked when I'm pushing 165+. Time to go throw a couple rib-eyes on the grill for the girl and I.

Damn what is with all these guys (you and Bako) coming back to the gym and already creeping past my bench/push strength lol. Nice solid workout there. I have high expectations for your re-progress! Rib eyes sound excellent. Enjoy dude.

    Thanks man,

So I didn't post a workout yesterday because I postponed it to today (which is normally an off day). I will still get my third and fourth workouts in for the week. I won't miss!!

    Lower Body Deadlift Day

    Deadlifts
    135 x 8
    185 x 5
    225 x 3
    245 x 3
    245 x 3
    225 x 3

    BB Lunges
    135 x 8
    135 x 6

    BB Calf Raises
    135 x 12
    135 x 12
    135 x 12

    Overall

Workout wasn't very high volume, but great nonetheless. I love deadlifts. I expect my deadlift weight to rise every week for a while. I can't wait to start doing singles again.

I realized today that my leg curl/extension attachment is busted. I'm going to see if I can fix this somehow. I'd like to be able to throw in those exercises at the end of my leg workouts.

Eating has been pretty good. I'm just under 3,000 calories right now and still have a few more hours before I'll go to sleep. I'm going to shoot for 4,000 tonight. It's been forever since I hit that mark.

No doubt man. A solid session for sure pinky. Nothin' wrong with the short intense sessions. They seem to work quite nicely. I actually am gonna do a set of Leg Extensions myself once in a while on days where I don't Squat. w00t.

I've been extremely busy but the workouts have been going great. Lifts are feeling comfortable again and I'm feeling better each workout. I picked up some new creatine, whey, and fish oil. I decided on the last lower body workout to do 5 x 5 for my main exercises.

In other news, I JUST dropped my Iphone in the toilet in the middle of typing this. I'm trying to fix it. Wish me luck.

Oh hell no, that's probably the worst news I can hear right now, most phone plans don't cover water damage and what not - wish you the best with that though bro. Keep the workouts going and blow up.

Thanks as always for the support guys. My I-phone ended up *kind of* surviving the toilet. It works but the backlight of the LCD is out so I can hardly see anything. But anyways, on to posting workouts.

    Overall

I'm feeling GREAT. Lifts are coming up fast and I feel stronger every workout. The 185 sets of benching felt better/easier than the 175 sets of benching on Wednesday! And that's the same with the 255 deadlifts compared to the 245 last week. I expect to up my deadlifts 10lbs every week for a while until I get back up there in the 300's.

On some of these workouts, I've cut a couple things out here and there lowering the overall volume a bit. My body is still getting used to all the lifting again. I know my body and i'm doing what I think is best for it. The lifts I'm doing are intense and are WORKING me. I'm feeling my lower back and everything from deadlifts yesterday, so I cut out the BB rows tonight. My main focus now is to eat. That's what I'm going to do right now.

It may be a bit psychological, but I can already see my body looking better. My bulkiness is coming back already. I'm starting to look like I lift again. I know I'm slowly but steadily gaining weight, though I haven't weighed myself. I feel good.

Definitely CoCoa. I just have to keep progressing.

f=ma, I just checked out your new journal and it's good to see that you're doing well. Lookin' sick man.

I've always been on a never ending bulk and I just have the mindset of making as much progress as possible now. My initial goal is to get back over the 170 mark, where I was at my highest, and then keep gaining as much as possible until I find it necessary for a cut. I'd like to see myself get up in the 190 area before I have to think about slowing down. We will see.

I had a crappy diet (not enough cals for bulking) this weekend and I wasn't feeling "it" this workout. It was a crappy workout, but I did go up in my squat weight to do some 205's. Next week I plan on doing my full 5 x 5 at 205 and get back to 225 sets soon.

I'll be having a better upper body workout tonight and then watching the Blackhawks hopefully take the cup.

Solid work with the deads man...no need to rush with bulking up and adding on size, if you gain so much as a pound a month, you should be well pleased imo.

Yeah, if the main lifts go up I'm generally happy no matter what. It was still kind of a pansy workout though.

I had stuff to do last night and by the time I finished my workout I only caught the last period of the hockey game. Yeah the Hawks won. Hockey is a sport that I never got into but I started watching the hawks in the playoffs this year and It was actually pretty exciting. It was definitely cool to see them win last night.

    BB Military Presses
    105 x 8
    105 x 8

    Chinups
    BW x 8
    BW x 6

    Overall

Good workout. I threw in a set or two of real quick curls at the end but nothing too special. I did the curls in a matter of seconds and bolted home to catch the end of the Hawks game.

My benching keeps feeling better. I'm very very suprised at how fast my main lifts are coming up. They arn't where they used to be, but hell things are coming back quick. 3 weeks ago a set of 155 at bench was rough. Now the 185's feel easier than that. It feels great.
