I'm sure almost everyone has internally faced this dilemma on some sort of scale.
Basically I want to see who is wearing gloves or growing their own man-leather.
I started lifting in high school and never bought gloves or saw anyone using them. I simply thought it was the "way to go" at the time and it just became a habit. I borrowed (and cleaned) a pair from a friend to try it for a day. I started one lift and took them off once my hands hit the bar. I just don't like the feeling of something else in between me and the weight I suppose.
Calluses > gloves.

I train in an unheated garage in Detroit, I wear rubber palm gloves in the winter months to keep my hands warm, but the rest of the year, bare handed.
Gloves do not help the grip, so no gloves.

The problem I find with gloves is that it's so difficult to find a matching handbag.
I wear gloves with wrist support.

I've never wore gloves, because 1. I compete in powerlifting meets, and 2. if I do wear them it feels like the bar isn't in my hand but there is weight on my body(weird feeling). My uncle got me some weightlifting gloves for Christmas one year(I was young and just starting out with working out), and I tried using them but it gave me that feeling that I described above so I just kept them in the bottom of my gym bag.
I got gloves a few months back thinking they'd help my deadlift grip. When lifting it felt like a layer of fat had been added to my hands. They done nothing for me.
i got some because at work my hand was starting to hurt from the constant vibration of the tools, not doing that anymore so im not wearing em anymore. BUT i would say if youre going to wear gloves TRY to look at work gloves... less padding and more grip then most workout gloves
Farmer or Gardner Gloves are great. I think they're about 8 bucks at Lowes.
They do not help your grip, but they do prevent calluses. IMHO, calluses are natures way of telling everyone you dig ditches for a living.

I remember reading a post from Doggcrapp, who is stronger and more hardcore than anyone who posted in here so far, a few years ago stating he wore gloves because his wife didn't like callused hands. Food for thought to all the tough guys making purse comments. I wouldn't wear them personally, but perhaps there is a reason to for some.
Everyone else wears gloves and has pretty hands....
I have rough caluses and scaly skin on my hands and guess what im stronger than them hahaha
yea I have a problem with the handbag as well...
Im eating like an ANIMAL training like a hell raiser and hoping to be as big as possible...

No gloves baby. The calluses give off a homemade reversed ribbed feel when j.o.'ing
Calluses also protect your hands when applying strength in real world applications. Lifting heavy items with jagged edges is tough if you have really soft hands.
