The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    EFS band differences

a while back (december 2009), I bought 2 EFS strong bands and due to my hamstring injury I didn't even start using them until recently.

Once I have the bands setup (choked to my rack) and get in there, the tension is a good 30-40lbs heavier on one side. After squatting through it a few times it's just too hard to really get positioned right. I held the 2 up next to each other and one band is nearly 3/4" longer than the other.

I suppose I can stretch out the smaller one, but does anybody know how long I'll need to stretch it for to get the desired length?

what you would you guys do in this situation, aside from ponying up another $27 for another band??

I would call customer service at EFS and see if they will replace it.

This. EFS prides itself on customer service so maybe they can help you out. Did you use one of them more often than the other and thats why one is longer?

That'd be great if they do help you out, although you can't blame them if they don't, the bands were purchased quite some time ago

What we've done in this instance is just choke one a little higher than the other to try and even it out.

is it norm for bands to be slightly different lengths? My EFS bands are all a bit off.

jeebus. My training partner has jump stretch bands and they pull pretty much perfectly even. I think I'ma order a couple sets from them. banded squats are near impossible with the ones I have.

This is a common complaint I've heard with elite's new bands.
Get some 2 x 4's and choke the longer band over some in addition to the rack. Or you could take a heavy DB with a handle roughly the same height as your anchor point. Play around with the setup until you can come across one that gives you equal tension. You should be doing this already, especially if you have Strongs, or you won't get any tension at the bottom. Remember any recommendation to band tension that westside/elite gives is done with a specific setup that they use.

I thought about this but, it's been almost 10 months.. I ordered them at the end of november. From a retailer standpoint, how do they know I'm not using one more than the other and whatnot..

Truth is I didn't use either because of my hamstring injury. They aren't thicker, just one is longer.. Folded up it's 3/4-1" longer. so it's probably 2" of actual material longer..

Unfortunately, I don't have pegs, so I can't choose a different peg to choke it too, I just choke it to the squat rack.

My MM, Mini & Avg bands I got from them are all perfect, just the strong ones. I suppose I'll try to get a hold of them to see..

this is good, I'm going to give this a shot.. thanks for the help.

i'm not to interested in the specific tension ##s, I just want to increase explosiveness and have even tension, haha..

Just to make sure, you haven't used one more than the other? Even like doing abs or leg curls or anything?

no.. i couldn't do **** with the strong bands for the last 8 months, hell i wasn't using any bands when it came to legwork.. i've only been using mini's and monster mini's for bench and upper body work.. after the 6th time pulling my hamstring, i called it quits on everything. I stopped doing legs for about a month while getting the **** beat out of it by a muscular therapist... then started over with a 135lb squat and deadlift.. I'm finally back up to 405x8 with each and figure now i can start adding bands again for speed work against lighter weight (185-225ish). the last time i injured it was early april and it's feeling alot better these days.

i sent an email to EFS, but i really don't expect them to do anything about it..
