The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Hell wish I could go fishing. It won't stop raining and the wind blowing at 40 mph, doesn't make for a good day on the lake. On that 245, once you get to your sticking point, are you pressing back towards your head? We've been talking about that technique and a lot of big benchers agreed that it works to get that rep pressed. Good progress man, keep at it.

I heard on the tube that some nasty storms and winds were coming through Texas, I hope nothin major. Seems when I bench raw I don't use that technique as much as when I'm in the shirt, always thought maybe because I don't arch quite as much raw vs shirt. I've heard a thousand different opinions it seems on the straight line or the press back over the head and I am unsure which works best but it definately feels more comfortable in the shirt compared to raw. Those bands today were super tight so I was doing anything in my power to get that rep (arch, belly, traps squeezed, leg drive, pulling the bar apart) and it probably wasn't pretty.

The storms we got were a LOT of rain. Lake is up 1.5 feet from rain and runoff, our city has an excellent run off system that dumps quite a bit back in to our lake system, so seeing that made me really happy. Wind, rain, lightning, no tornadoes here, thankfully. Some homes in our area took some pretty heavy wind damage, especially fences, luckily my rickety wooden POS fence is still up, or maybe it should have fallen, would have been an insurance claim.

I heard several different things regarding pushing back raw, and finally just checked it out for myself one night and low and behold..it worked wonderfully for me. It's my go to move for sticky/fatigued spots on the bench now, only when I get stuck though. I did band work this morning, and my last 2 reps were just like you described, I was shot by the 1st to last, no idea why I took a deep breath and went for another, ha.

Solid work on squat day man, looking mighty fine.

Yeah my bench is by far my stubborn lift of the three. My progress always seems to be very small and can be frustrating as hell at times so I always love input and food for thought, hell just not the bench but any lift for that matter. Thanks for staying tuned.

What type or what level scale did you get, just wondering if you went all out with the purchase.

The squats you performed were stellar, as were the bb rows - looking nice.

Jus a cheap scale to monitor the LBS. Want to stay in the 242 class but I swear that the recent gains I have made are not "bad weight" related cause everything is fitting the same in the waist area. I find it hard to make progress and stay at a constant weight, if I watch calories to close it really hampers PR's in the gym it seems. Jus another battle in the iron game.

Tested my will today (One hell of a long day!): Up at 2:00 a.m. drove to Lexington for a medical procedure for my son then got back home at 4:30 p.m. and started lifting about 5:30. Need less to say my lower back was tight as hell before starting but then proceeded to kill it with this workout and hit a PR on sus. gm's. Good Stuff!
