    Optimal number of days

    What do you think is the optimal number of days somebody should workout [with weights] in a week?

    I think it (obviously) matters a lot what they're training for. I think 4 is a generally good number for the average hobby lifter, i.e. someone who isn't training for bodybuilding or powerlifting competitions

    No Cookie Cutter vote from here. There really is no optimal number of days in my opinion. There well may be an optimal number of days for an individual, depending on type of training, nutrition intake, recovery ability, age and goals.

    Personally, I like 3-4 days for strength training and every other day for bb/hypertrophy work, with the occasional two days off when needed.

    For me it's anywhere from 2 to 4 depending on if I'm going balls out and/or what I'm actually doing, so I split the difference and put 3

    Depends on a number of factors. Goals and training age being the most relevant in my opinion. I currently train 4 days a week but have had my best results training 3 days a week.

    Looks like we have a close race between 3 and 4 days a week. No suprise, those should be the top choices as far as I'm concerned.

    Strength wise i seem to make the best gains with 3 days of weight training.

    During the winter months I prefer 4 days a week. Summer months I prefer 3 days because I am much more active and work more hours.

    I agree completely. Not only is it an individualized preference but also lifestyle is a huge factor as well.
